Respect.
Last might during a concert in Rogers, Arkansas at the Walmart AMP as part of his Country Song Came On Tour, Luke Bryan stopped the show to address the fact that he was clearly struggling with his voice and didn’t sound quite right.
He alluded to times it’s happened before at that specific venue for some reason, and thanked the crowd for continually showing up and supporting him even when he’s given less-than-perfect performances. He also decided to refund the entire venue for their tickets, and recalled a time Luke Combs pulled a similar move after struggling to sing but continuing to finish the concert anyways.
The crowd seemed unbothered by his vocal issues, and I think it’s really cool that he did that knowing he wasn’t giving them his absolute best:
“So, I’m gonna get real with y’all. This is the weirdest thing I’ve ever dealt with in my life. I cannot have my voice in this venue for some reason.
It happens every time, I don’t know why. But you guys keep showing up year after year to see me put on a show, and you know, I saw Luke Combs do this a couple years ago when he was having a weird night onstage, and I said, ‘You know what, that’s pretty cool.’
So I don’t give a damn, I’m gonna refund everybody that’s in this venue tonight. And we’re gonna keep doing this damn show, okay? Because we’re just gonna make this what it is, I don’t know why I’ve had to do this every time, but y’all can hear so we’re gonna make the most of it. Let’s do it.”
Even though I haven’t been to a Luke Bryan concert since I was in high school, this is the kind of thing that sets country music apart and I’m sure the fans will continue to show up for him knowing how much he respects their time and money, especially considering how much tickets are these days and how much they all probably spent to be there and see him:
