Lukas Nelson And Duane Betts Team Up For Acoustic Duet Of Billy Joe Shaver’s “Live Forever”

The sons of two music legends.

Today, Lukas Nelson and Duane Betts, who is of course the son of the late, great Dickey Betts, shared a beautiful duet of Billy Joe Shaver’s “Live Forever.”

Duane is the frontman of Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel, and is a co-founding member of The Allman Betts Band, which is comprised of the sons of three founding members of the Allman Brothers Band in Devon Allman (son of Gregg Allman), Duane Betts (son of Dickey Betts), and Berry Duane Oakley (son of Berry Oakley). It’s a super cool concept, and they’re all great musicians in their own right.

And obviously, seeing the son of the former Allman Brothers Band guitarist teaming up with Lukas, son of the great Willie Nelson (who has close ties to the band), is so special, and they’ve appeared together onstage here and there before.

Interestingly, in 2022, Lukas’ dad, the legend himself Willie Nelson, was featured alongside Lucinda Williams on a cover of “Live Forever” for the tribute album Live Forever: A Tribute To Billy Joe Shaver. First released in 1993 on his Tramp on Your Street album, Shaver co-wrote it with his late son, Eddy Shaver, and it was later re-recorded for his 1998 album, Victory. It became one of his signature songs, and has been covered countless times by plenty of country artists over the years.

Lukas has recently embarked on his own solo career, but he still has a little bit of that rock influence in his music and obviously, Duane comes from southern rock royalty, so they really are a natural fit and I hope we hear more of them together.

It’s so fun seeing the children of iconic musicians perform together, and not only that, but hold their own as musicians… they clearly both come by their talent very honestly. They made their dads proud, that’s for sure:

And speaking Lukas’ recent music, he appeared onstage at the Band Together Texas benefit concert alongside Pat Green to sing a cover of Ernest Tubb’s “Waltz Across Texas,” as well as Lukas’ original “Just Outside of Austin.”

During the star-studded event organized by Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum to benefit the Texas Hill country communities that were devastated by the recent flood, they raised over 8.5 million for their fellow Texans:
