Lainey Wilson Says That She’s Going To Make Her Fiancé, Duck Hodges, Wait To Get Married Because He Made Her Wait On A Ring

Give him a taste of his own medicine.

As if Lainey Wilson didn’t already have enough on her plate right now as one of the biggest artists in country music, she’s also got a wedding to plan after getting engaged earlier this year to her longtime boyfriend Devlin “Duck” Hodges.

Duck was a four-year starter at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama before being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019. He was named the starter during the 2019 season when Mason Rudolph went down with an injury, going 3-3 as a starting quarterback before being waived by the Steelers and signed to the practice squad prior to the 2020 season.

They couple dated for about four years before getting engaged, though they kept their relationship a secret for quite a while before finally walking the red carpet together at the ACM Awards back in 2023. And Lainey recently opened up about how he popped the question at the George Jones estate back in February:

“So I had talked to myself into thinking he was gonna do it that day, and then I called my sister, I said, ‘I think he’s gonna propose to me today.’ And she was like she was like, ‘I gotta go.’ And then I talked myself out of it, cause I thought, man, I sure would be upset if I talked myself into this and it don’t happen.

But we have been wanting to go see the George Jones estate for quite some time, and his buddy had it listed for sale, and we were at the Super Bowl the weekend before, and he was like ‘Hey, we need to go next week to go see the George Jones estate. That way we can just say we’ve been at the George Jones estate.’

And then as we pull up, I realize that there were different plans. So he had it all set up, he had the candles and the picture frames, and it could not have been more perfect.”

But Lainey isn’t any hurry to walk down the aisle.

In an interview with Country Living, the reigning ACM Awards Entertainer of the Year joked that her future husband might kill her for saying it, but she said she was going to make him wait to get married just like he made her wait to get engaged:

“I told I’m gonna make him wait. He made me wait for 4 years. I’m gonna make him wait before we start planning this thing.

We hadn’t really covered any ground on it just yet, but we’re taking our time and it’s gonna be right and it’s gonna be beautiful and, you know, what it’s supposed to be about.”

Of course they’ve both got plenty on their plate, so I’m sure neither or them are in a huge hurry to deal with the stress of wedding planning right now. But after seeing the proposal he pulled off, it seems like Lainey might be able to rely on her fiancé to help with quite a bit of the planning.
