Hope you didn’t skip leg day.

If you come to Nashville, chances are your trip will include at least one night on Broadway bouncing around between the bars.

The popular downtown tourist strip features dozens of massive bars packed into a 5-block stretch, many of them featuring the names of some of the biggest artists in country music.

There’s Morgan Wallen’s This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen, Jelly Roll’s Goodnight Nashville, Blake Shelton’s Ole Red, Miranda Lambert’s Casa Rosas, Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row, Kid Rock’s Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock N’ Roll Steakhouse (yes, that’s its real name), Alan Jackson’s AJ’s Good Time Bar, Eric Church’s Chiefs, and many, many more.

Most of these bars are massive multi-story venues with multiple stages, full-service restaurants, dance clubs, and more. Some have tattoo shops, some have sports bars or piano bars, and some have historical markers showing where Morgan Wallen threw a chair off a rooftop.

Broadway has been booming in recent years, with real estate hitting a premium as more and more investors want to capitalize on the popularity of Nashville and the explosion of these artist-owned bars. The problem, though, is that space on Broadway is limited to about a 5-block stretch from 5th Avenue to the Cumberland River.

So how do you get more space in your bar? Well, you just build up, of course.

It’s not uncommon for Broadway bars to be five or six stories, complete with a rooftop bar at the top overlooking all the madness – which presents a problem that many people apparently don’t think about when they come to party on Nashville’s most famous street: Stairs.

Lots and lots of stairs.

Most bars obviously have elevators for those who need them, but for the most part you’re either going to wait forever or they’re only available to those who aren’t able to walk up the stairs – which means you better be wearing your hiking boots if you want to get to the rooftop of Morgan Wallen’s bar.

Of course there’s a good chance that you’ve also got a little buzz going by the time you’re ready to start exploring other floors (or other bars), but nothing will kill that buzz off faster than having to climb the concrete equivalent of Mount Everest just to get a $14 beer and hear yet another cover of “Sweet Caroline.”

People are often shocked by the number of stairs they have to climb in search of a good time on Broadway:

“What nobody tells you about Nashville”

“And just when you think you’ve made it to the top. There’s MORE”

“I wore new boots and getting to the rooftop of these bars was insane”

(That’s another good reason NOT to try to show off in your new boots when you come to Nashville. Your dawgs are going to be BARKING if they’re not comfortable).

But then again, it’s a good way to burn off those calories from your last beer and make room for another one.

Just don’t say we didn’t warn you: If you’re coming to Nashville, maybe hit the Stairmaster for a few days to prepare yourself.
