Taylor Sheridan Knew First: Why The ‘Yellowstone’ Creator Told Jennifer Lawrence To Never Take An Acting Class

Taylor Sheridan had an impact on Hollywood long before he was known as the creator and show runner that “can’t miss.”

It’s no secret that the Yellowstone creator is one of the most sought after minds in Hollywood. Because it seems as though everything he touches turns to gold (or at least brings in massive ratings), there’s not an entertainment executive out there that doesn’t want a cut of the Taylor Sheridan pie.

NBC Universal even struck a deal with Sheridan recently to get him to leave Paramount… and it only cost them somewhere north of $1 billion.

It was when Sheridan gave up his acting career that his career in writing, directing and creating really took off. Obviously, Yellowstone was the show that really launched him into the stratosphere, and when its second season averaged 6.3 million viewers, it easily became one of the top shows on cable… and only continued to succeed and grow from there.

But before he became the name behind some of the biggest shows on television, Sheridan was apparently trying to help others grow in their own careers. Oscar winning actress Jennifer Lawrence recently shared that, as she was coming up in the industry, Taylor Sheridan was the one that gave her life-changing advice.

The star of movies likes The Hunger Games and Silver Linings Playbook sat down with the Smartless podcast, and it was during her time with co-hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes that Lawrence revealed that her mother took her to someone to get advice on acting, and it just so happened to be Taylor Sheridan:

“My mom took me to this guy that this agency told me to meet to help me act, or whatever. And he told my mom, ‘Don’t put her in any acting lessons. Don’t do that.’ That guy randomly is Taylor Sheridan … I guess he was an acting teacher back in the day, or something.”

So Taylor Sheridan was an acting coach that told his students not to take acting lessons? Sounds a bit odd… but at the same time, pretty much on-brand for the Yellowstone creator.

And speaking of creating shows, Jennifer Lawrence was later asked if she and Sheridan had ever explored the idea of working together, now that they are both in a position to pick and choose the projects they want to do. After all, Sheridan is notorious for hand-selecting actors and actresses for roles in his shows and movies, and Jennifer Lawrence would be an easy pick.

Unfortunately, she said they had met about a project in the past, but it never came to fruition. But now that Lawrence knows they go way back, that might spark a sense of urgency to work together in the future:

“We met about another project, but we didn’t talk about it because I don’t know if we even made the connection. Someone made the connection for me when I was doing a Q&A for a movie two or three years ago.”
