Sunn O))) to Release New Self-Titled Album This April, “Glory Back” Streaming Now

Attention doom metal diehards and drone doomsayers — the epic Sunn O))) is back and ready to drop their first album with Sub Pop Records on April 3. The self-titled offering is being touted as the first time ever that Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley will work as a duo for the entirety of the record.

Described as a piece that “balances massive intensity with naturalistic fragility, all infused with the bracing, earthy air of the Pacific Northwest,” this new record was reocrded in the rural confines of Bear Creek Studios in Washington state. It was that backdrop that O’Malley said really served to inspire the new release.

“The vast tracking room had big windows looking out on trees. We could go hiking and be out in the woods, spend time outdoors. That became a big part of it.”

Similarly, Anderson said the calming nature of where they were working on the new record really helped them center their artistic efforts on this new album.

“It was very inviting and very comfortable there. There was no stress, no worry about the timeline or anything like that. We just let ourselves go, and let the music come out. What’s been happening with our performances over the last couple years with the two of us and no other collaborators has been really fresh and exciting.”
