No Shoes Nation, your fearless leader is back in the studio! But it’s not for what you’d initially think.
Kenny Chesney is getting ready to release his first book, “Heart Life Music“. The book, written with his longtime friend and collaborator Holly Gleason, will be available on November 4, 2025.
The book celebrates the life and journey of Kenny Chesney, as well as the tone he has set for country music throughout his career. From writing hit singles to creating a fanbase like No Shoes Nation, making his life shows more exciting than ever, 32 years after the release of his debut single. Chesney is a one-of-a-kind artist.
With his latest record, Born, being released in 2024, I am sure that No Shoes Nation would love to get some news that Kenny Chesney is back in the studio working on his next project– and he is, but it’s not the music they are hoping for.
Last week, Chesney shared an image of himself in the studio, but he’s not standing in the usual singing position you see from behind-the-scenes clips artists share. He’s sitting in front of a large monitor, recording the audiobook version of “Heart Life Music.”
Just the East Tennessee native and a microphone sit in the recording booth of Blackbird Studios to revisit all the stories and tales shared in the book’s “intimate postcards.”
Chesney shared in a press release that, while recording the audio for his memoir, he noted that it’s a very surreal feeling to have the memories come flooding back as he shares them. Of course, he recalled all these moments during the writing process, but the need to get the details right took over, and now, speaking the words back into the microphone is placing him back in all these pivotal life moments.
“It’s funny, when you’re living it, it’s being in the moment. When we were writing it, it was looking back and really striving to get it right. But now, reading it, all of these stories become real again. I can see everybody, from the Turf and the Wheel, to (Capricorn Records founders) Phil Walden with all that charisma and (legendary producer) Barry Beckett telling me to ‘put a smile on it.’
It takes a lot longer than I thought to record an audiobook, or maybe it’s just I would get lost in seeing all the people and places along the way. In a way, it’s what I did with my summer vacation: visit all these adventures I’ve had, because when I started to hear the stories, I felt like I was living them all over again.”
I can only imagine how many feelings and memories it would stir up while re-telling these stories and important life moments. I really love that Chesney is doing the audio recording himself as well; it will make the listening experience that much better, hearing all these stories through his tone.
“Heart Life Music” will be available for purchase on November 4, and it sounds like a very special project.
While you’re here, take a listen to an interview Chesney did with CBS Mornings, discussing how his “unique perspective” of his life and the music business is giving him an edge for writing this book.
