Our first look at the new Kayce Dutton series is HERE.

CBS has given the green light to a 13-episode series called Y: Marshals, a story in the Yellowstone universe where Luke Grimes will reprise his role as Kayce Dutton.

Yellowstone fans know well that one of the main character qualities of Kayce, the youngest of the Dutton siblings, was his prior military experience – specifically as a Navy SEAL. Based on the show’s proposed log line, it appears the series will focus on his trained skillset a bit more:

“With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”

Honestly, the premise is a bit confusing given the fact that Kayce always seemed to be trying to escape his time in the SEAL Teams, and the violence that the Dutton Ranch brought as well, but I’m here for it. Give me Navy SEAL Kayce, in a Terminal List-style “shoot ’em up” action series all day.

However, this first teaser sort of answers that question, as you can hear Kayce say:

“I’m changing paths, trying to find a new beginning.”

A new beginning that… sorta seems like… exactly what you used to be doing? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…

The premiere has been confirmed for spring of 2026, and will fall into the coveted Sunday 9 p.m. EST time slot.

Filming is already underway and a number of original Yellowstone cast members have been confirmed to be returning.

The Cast

As I mentioned before, Luke Grimes will reprise his role as Kayce Dutton, this time stepping into federal service, and Brecken Merrill is back as Tate Dutton, Kayce’s son.

But the real question mark right now is Kelsey Asbille, AKA Monica Dutton. To be fair, Monica got a lot of hate from Yellowstone fans, so I’m not surprised that Kelsey might not want to return, but that being said, how the heck are you going to do the show without her? Better open up the checkbook Taylor…

But in addition to Luke and Brecken, there’s quite a few former cast members coming back, including Gil Birmingham, who returns as Thomas Rainwater and Mo Brings Plenty, who reprises his role as Mo (Kayce’s friend and spiritual advisor).

New Cast Members:

A number of new cast memebers are listed as follows:

Logan Marshall-Green plays Pete Calvin, a military comrade of Kayce

Arielle Kebbel plays Belle, a U.S. Marshal

Ash Santos as Andrea, a U.S. Marshal

Tatanka Means will play Miles, another member of the U.S. Marshals team.

Brett Cullen will appear in a recurring capacity as Harry Gifford, head of the Marshals in Montana.

All in all, Y: Marshals promises an exciting evolution for the Yellowstone universe… more action, more familiar faces, and more of the Yellowstone world that fans have been hoping for, but much like the departure of Kevin Costner in the flagship series, it seems like something will be missing without Kelsey.

Or who knows, maybe Tate just makes a couple quick scenes and the rest is runnin’ and gunnin’ Kayce Dutton… kickin’ a** and takin’ names.

Stay tuned…
