Jimmy Kimmel Under Fire For Suggesting Charlie Kirk Shooter Was One Of The “MAGA Gang”

Doesn’t sound MAGA to me…

We’re finally learning more about the man behind the horrific assassination of conservative media personality Charlie Kirk last Wednesday during an event at Utah Valley University.

After a 33 hour manhunt, 22-year old Tyler Robinson of Utah was arrested after his father turned him in. And immediately, the internet jumped into action to try to find everything they could about him.

Democrats and those on the left seized on the fact that Robinson was a white man, and that his parents were Republican, to claim that he may have been on the right and a fan of President Donald Trump. But as more information came out, it became pretty clear that wasn’t the case.

Yesterday, Robinson was formally charged with aggravated murder, along with six other charges, in Kirk’s murder. And in the charging documents, we got a better look at Robinson and his background, including his thoughts on politics, Donald Trump and Charlie Kirk.

According to officials, the shell casings found in the rifle used in the shooting had been engraved with messages including one that said, “Hey Fascist! Catch,” as well as other meme slogans. And in the criminal information, officials report that Robinson’s mother told them that over the past year or so he had become more political and began to lean more to the left, “becoming more pro-gay and trans-rights oriented.”

His mother also confirmed, as has been widely reported, that Robinson also began dating his transgender roommate, a biological male who was transitioning to female. And he had accused Charlie Kirk of “spreading hate” while also bringing up Kirk’s upcoming appearance at UVU.

In interviews with the roommate, he reported that after the shooting he received a message from Robinson telling him to “drop what he was doing” and to look under Robinson’s keyboard, where he found a note reportedly confessing to the shooting.

The roommate then texted Robinson, who confirmed that he was the shooter while saying that he had “had enough of his hatred” while saying that “some hatred can’t be negotiated out.” Robinson also texted his roommate that his dad “has been pretty diehard MAGA” while telling the roommate to delete his text messages and not talk to police.

(To be clear and to the roommate’s credit, there’s no evidence that he was involved or knew about Robinson’s plans for the shooting, and by all reports has been fully cooperative in the investigation. Honestly, the texts make it sound like he wanted nothing to do with Robinson after he found out what he had done).

All that to say, it doesn’t exactly sound like he was right-wing or “MAGA.” It sounds like he hated Kirk because of his politics, and decided to kill him over it, which is pretty much what any reasonable person suspected (and not, like MSNBC suggested, one of Kirk’s supporters firing off celebratory gunfire, which is just insane to even suggest).

But Jimmy Kimmel apparently wasn’t willing to accept that it was a left-wing lunatic who killed Charlie Kirk.

During his monologue on Monday (which was obviously before Robinson was officially charged), Kimmel implied, without evidence, that the shooter was part of the “MAGA gang.”

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

That’s some…interesting spin.

Obviously Kimmel has received quite a bit of criticism for trying to spin the story to fit his preferred narrative without evidence, including calls for advertisers to ditch his show or for parent network ABC to take action against the host for spreading misinformation.

Of course I’m not holding my breath for either of those to actually happen, because at this point both advertisers and the network know exactly what they’re getting from Kimmel. If they cared about him spewing fake news for a political agenda they would have taken action against him a long time ago.
