As we all know by now, Zach Bryan made a whole bunch of headlines a few weeks ago at Born & Raised Festival when he tried to fight Gavin Adcock after weeks of prodding from the “Never Call Again” singer. In case you’re not caught up with the seemingly endless amount of drama between country artists lately, I’ll summarize the whole ordeal.
Long story short… Adcock called Bryan out back in July after the “Something in the Orange” singer aggressively responded to a 14-year-old girl on TikTok who complained that he didn’t stop and meet with fans in New York, telling the girl to “GOMD” (get off my d*ck).
Truth is, Bryan spent time with fans on two of the three nights and surely didn’t know this clout-chasing fan was a 14-year-old girl, but it provoked a response from Adcock nevertheless. He would then sit down for an interview with Rolling Stone in August and doubled down, saying that he didn’t think that Bryan was a very good guy.
“It wasn’t about not wanting to sign autographs after a show. It’s just letting a 14-year-old kid rant without saying, ‘Get off my d*ick.’ I think Zach Bryan puts on a big mask in his day-to-day life, and sometimes he can’t help but rip it off and show his true colors. I don’t know if Zach Bryan’s really that great of a person.”
At Born & Raised, Bryan joined Gabriella Rose during her opening set, and even hijacked the duet to call Gavin out from the stage. He allegedly saw Adcock through a fence as he was leaving and stopped to confront him, hopping over the fence, before he was grabbed by security, and no punches were thrown. Adcock argued that Zach had saw him earlier in the day and wasn’t drunk enough to confront him then.
In typical Gavin Adock fashion, the 25-year-old singer/songwriter continued to troll Bryan after the altercation. Along with saying that he didn’t fight him since he had a show to play at Born & Raised, Adcock would post multiple follow-up videos addressing the situation.
Beyond calling Bryan a “psycho” and “Sack Cryin’,” Adcock would go on to tell fans that the Oklahoma native knew where he was the entire time and said that he wasn’t going to fight him regardless, since he had a show to perform.
Unsurprisingly, Bryan has been all but radio silent about the altercation on social media. Though it can be argued that he subtly addressed the situation in his recent Instagram post ahead of his Michigan Stadium show this weekend, given the fact that he said he will “never regret a thing,” he’s never publicly addressed the situation or even named Adcock in any form.
“Each day I pray people understand I will never regret a thing and I am proud of myself, my family and my friends. There could be a million assholes who have never had a unique thought in their life preaching a million pounds of negativity and bullshit, and it wouldn’t be worth a single soul who’s found strength and shelter in true songwriting and good live performances.”
With all of that being said, it looks like Bryan finally made at least some form of comment on the whole situation.
Over the weekend, Matthew McConaughey took his Poems & Prayers book tour to Tulsa, Oklahoma. In case you’re not familiar with the Oscar-winning actor’s new venture, Poems & Prayers is a collection of his poetry written over 36 years, beginning when he was 18. Instead of doing a typical book tour, McConaughey chose to collaborate with artists in select cities on tour, teaming up with the likes of Lukas Nelson, John Mayer, Jon Bon Jovi and Jon Batiste over the past week and a half.
During his trip to Tulsa on September 19, he was joined by Bryan himself. Though there’s not a ton of footage from the event itself, Tulsa World reported that Bryan performed “The Good I’ll Do” and the unreleased “With Heaven On Top” while on stage with McConaughey in the midst of his two-hour poem presentation.
The one piece of footage we have, as recorded by TikTok user @sal171_1, shows the moment Bryan sat down on stage with McConaughey… and it’s pretty funny.
Though some of their back-and-forth is pretty unintelligible, at one point, McConaughey asks Bryan, “What’s the worst that can happen?”
Laughing, the “I Remember Everything” singer simply replied, “I don’t know… jump a fence,” which was followed by a roar from the Tulsa crowd. Unfortunately, the video cuts off there, and we don’t have any additional context or follow-up to the quote.
Overall, though the fence comment was admittedly funny, the situation itself was nothing short of ridiculous for both Adcock and Bryan, in my opinion. The trend of country music using what can only be described as pro wrestling-style marketing is getting a little bit old and tiresome. With that being said, however, I think it’s safe to say that this beef is all but done (until Adcock stirs the pot up once again, I should say).
