Just guys being dudes, am I right?
Restaurants closing down are never fun. Personally, I’ve been heartbroken to see some of my favorite eateries shutter. Restaurants are one of the riskier business ventures you can enter into, and not even brand recognition has helped keep eating establishments stay afloat in recent years (See Red Lobster, Hooters, etc.).
Another chain that has struggled is Joe’s Crab Shack, and unfortunately, a location in Fort Meyers, Florida had to shut its doors this past week. Now like I said, there’s nothing happy about someone having to close down their business… but if this closure did have a silver lining, it’s that some lucky gentlemen – who evidently did a fair amount of scouting and planning – walked away with a free, 7-foot long (at least) acrylic shark.
A local news station covering the Joe’s Crab Shack shut down captured footage of two men joyfully walking away from the restaurant with a big, seafood-themed souvenir a couple of days ago. The restaurant was apparently just throwing away the decor that it had used inside and outside of the building, and once the shark was in the dumpster, it was fair game:
“WINNER WINNER! We knew it would happen. WINK photographer, Luis, captured two men getting the giant shark out of the dumpster. It was in front of the Joe’s Crab Shack in downtown Fort Myers. The restaurant is closing for good.”
That’s the American dream right there.
Now the million dollar question is… what the hell are these two guys gonna do with a 7-foot long acrylic shark? I’d love to know what actually became of the sizable shark, but for now, I’ve got more than a couple of ideas for what may have happened to this tremendous dumpster-diving catch:
-That think would look great above the fireplace, though I’m sure fireplaces aren’t all that common in Florida
-Maybe these guys own a mini golf course? Throw that thing up by the 18th hole and you’ve got yourself a can’t-miss-photo-op
-Transforming it into a beer tap would be difficult, but legendary (imagine pouring a beer out of the shark’s mouth)
-Though it might take up a lot of space, it’d be one hell of a man cave conversation piece
-Front lawn yard ornament, anyone? HOA be damned.
-If they’ve got a backyard tiki bar, this was the last piece of the puzzle
-Perhaps they have a seafood restaurant of their own? Could the big shark find a new home at a familiar looking place?
-Sell it to a fraternity (simple but effective) and let them do with it as they please
The opportunities for the free shark are practically endless. That’s what social media users were able to agree on, and many also suggested that the restaurant owner should have tried to squeeze a little bit of money out of the decor instead of just tossing it:
“They better post how they styled it for their home/place/etc. I wanna see the vision.”
“So before closing the business owners didn’t think, ‘Hey I bet someone might like some stuff from this place, maybe we should have an auction, especially the giant freaking shark?’ No wonder they went out of business!”
“Good for them. What a great find. Really dumb and wasteful who ever tossed it to begin with.”
“Coming to Facebook marketplace near you.”
“That’s a beautiful monster right there. Very grateful it was rescued. Hope to see what they end up doing with it.”
To the two gentlemen that hauled away the shark… if you are reading this, please let us know what you did with the big, artificial beast.
Clearly the people want to know where that thing ends up.The post Guys Being Dudes: Two Florida Men Dumpster Dive For Giant Shark That Was Thrown Out By Defunct Joe’s Crab Shack first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
