Technically, it is George Harvey Strait, but when you’re that hot at 70+, I think we can make an exception…

A couple weeks ago, Laci Kaye Booth released a new single called “George ****** Strait,” which is a tip of the cowboy hat, so to speak, to the timeless appeal of handsome older men, specifically the ageless wonder that is the King of country music himself, Mr. George Strait.

Laci has been making a name for herself in Nashville for years now, and while she had success with her song “Shuffle,” from her 2021 self-titled record several years ago, it was her 2024 record The Loneliest Girl In The World that really showed of her impressive writing chops and incredibly unique voice. She recently released another great song called “Daddy’s Mugshot” that’s gotten some attention on social media, but I think this new one about George Strait is just universally relatable and I’m shocked no one has put out a song like this sooner… somehow, at 73 year old, he just continues to get better with age… like a fine wine. If you disagree, you might need to get your eyes checked…

So when Laci first started teasing this one, I immediately needed to hear the whole thing and I was looking forward to the release. Of course, she delivered, and I find it all to be 100% true and it’s like someone took a peak inside my brain and put it on paper:

“I bet it’s Texas, the way he’s walking
Tall drink of water and a ten gallon hat
Faded ring on his pocket
Can’t mind my business when he’s looking like that
Boy, they still make ’em just like they used to
He got the manners of a Southern Baptist saint
He got a wrench, I got a screw loose
He got me bucking right out the starting gate

Lord, if I can’t have him
I’ll get on my knees and pray
God, give me a man that just gets better with age
Like George ****** Strait”

Of course, it’s all in good fun, though Laci revealed during a set at CMA Fest over the weekend that it’s caused a stir with some of her older female fans who don’t seem to appreciate the fact that she used the F-word in the title with his name… there was a bit of an uproar on Facebook, and the comments section was dicey, to say the least:

“I just released it yesterday, and it’s making a lot of old biddies on Facebook mad. Cause it’s called ‘George ****** Strait.'”

I hadn’t heard much else in terms of negativity about it since then, but recently, Texas country legend Aaron Watson let her have it on TikTok, and he’s pretty vocal on there when it comes to the happenings of younger country artists, so I can’t say I’m all that surprised and he usually has some pretty funny takes. But I think I’ll have to disagree with him here. I think this song is just for the girls and if you get it, you get it… and if you don’t, yeah… you might find it a little offensive, I guess. Here’s what he said:

“Y’all, I just heard a new song and the title is literally ‘George ******* Strait.’ That’s the title. George’s middle name is not the F-word, honey. It’s Harvey. George Harvey Strait. Harvey. Poo poo mouth.”

And Laci made her own video with his sound, mocking him criticize her, and I have to wonder how long she spent trying to get it right, because she nailed it all the way down to his mannerisms and facial expressions (which he also seems to be hamming up for comedic effect), in addition to get the words exactly right. The timing was impressive… I’m not sure if these two have ever met or anything (they’re both from Texas), but this is funny either way:

Honestly, I can see how many find it a little bit crude and brash to say George Strait in that manner, but it’s also not uncommon for artists themselves to label things with the F-bomb, like Eric Church, for example, who used to (and still might) sell shirts that say “Eric ***** Church,” and it’s supposed to be light-hearted and funny. Sturgill Simpson famously sold a “Who The F Is Sturgill Simpson?” shirt.

I get it if you don’t like that word and don’t use it, I try not to say it too much myself, but with everything else going on in this world, I hardly think it’s worth getting upset over. Plus, in my humble opinion, she just spoke the truth of what we’re all thinking. If it’s not for you because of that one word, by all means, feel free to hit “skip,” but I have a feeling Strait would be honored by the sentiment, and I absolutely love the song.

At this point, I think we just need to hear his take to settle it once and for all…

Laci is a real talent, and you’re going to be hearing a lot more from her and I’m excited to see she’s gaining some real traction in terms of the popularity of her music. But when you write something as honest, and true, as this song about how hot George Strait is, has always been, and continues to get, you’re bound for success and I think it’s a hit.
