Talk about keeping the lead foot heavy on the pedal…

Gavin Adcock is a wild one, a new generation of outlaw in country music. You either love him or you hate him because of it, but there’s no denying that he’s managed to build a rabid fanbase in the relatively short time period since he made the jump from college football to music.

But back on May 21, Gavin was arrested in Wilson County, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville, on charges of reckless driving and open container. According to records from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Adcock was arrested at 11:15 PM and released on a $1,000 bond at 4:34 AM.

Up until now, the circumstances surrounding his arrest haven’t been made public. But last night, Gavin announced that he would be releasing a new song on Friday called “Morning Bail” that many thought was inspired by his recent arrest:

“Hey mister, can I get a copy of the mugshot?
Last thing I remember
I forgot to eat dinner
Then I started sipping liquor
And it all went dark

Ever since her leaving
I’ve been bottom barrel sinking
Man, I gotta quit drinking
On a broken heart
Guess I was hitting it hard
Woke up in a cell
Blew my money at the bar
Now I can’t make morning bail”

And he also released a t-shirt on his website featuring his now-viral mugshot:

Of course the timing of the song and the t-shirt so soon after his arrest has led many to accuse Gavin of somehow orchestrating his arrest as a publicity stunt. But Gavin took to social media just a few minutes ago to clear things up and set the record straight.

For the first time, Gavin explains what lead to his arrest – and as it turns out, he had his lead foot a little (a lot) too heavy on the pedal:

“I bought my dream car.. a 1973 Dodge Challenger. Over the past few months I’ve been putting money into it, getting it running as good as new, and decided I wanted to take it for a joy ride. The car ran great. I got pulled over and arrested for reckless driving going 103 in Wilson County, TN.

I wrote this song a few months back and planned to put it out on the album, but I figured there’s no better time than now.”

Yeah, 103 will definitely get you a ride to the slammer. But that’s a pretty bada** car so it’s hard to blame him…

But there you have it. The song was already in the hopper, and after he was arrested he decide to capitalize on the attention and go ahead and drop it.

Gavin is due back in court on August 18 on the charges, which appear to have been amended from reckless driving to simple speeding, as well as tickets for improper license plates and not having his Tennessee drivers license. So if you’re one of the haters who was hoping he would be doing some time behind bars…well, I don’t think that’s going to happen. The post Gavin Adcock Gives The Full Story Behind His Recent Arrest: “The Car Ran Great” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
