Former ‘1923’ Star Gets Another Role In The Taylor Sheridan Universe

Taylor Sheridan likes to reward and welcome back actors and actresses that have already starred in his universe of shows.

Good luck finding someone in the TV industry busier than Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan. His flagship series might have already had its run, but Sheridan is really just getting started. He continues to be the mind behind various other hits that bring in millions of viewers per episode, which is basically unprecedented for today’s viewing standards.

Just to do a little bit of a role call on what he’s got coming up, He’s got the Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler spinoff, The Dutton Ranch, premiering in early 2026 along with Kacey Dutton’s Y: Marshals (between January and April), and 1944 will air later in 2026.

And there’s another Yellowstone spinoff that’s believed to be in the works – called The Madison – that’s rumored to air in early 2026 (but little is known about that). For those counting at home, that’s potentially FOUR new Yellowstone spinoffs in the next year and a half or so. Which begs the question… does Taylor Sheridan sleep?

Sure doesn’t seem like it, and that was a role call of just Yellowstone spinoffs.

If you happen to like Taylor Sheridan shows outside of the Yellowstone universe, more of those are also coming later in 2026. Just as he doesn’t miss with his Yellowstone titles, the track record that Sheridan boasts with his other series is equally impressive. Tulsa King just had its season 3 premiere this past weekend, and Mayor Kingstown is set to come back next month in October. The smash-hit Landman will return for its second season in November.

It’s no secret that Taylor Sheridan has a large fanbase that follows him to whatever show he’s behind. And it’s safe to say that fans love that Sheridan keeps his shows on a regular schedule, releasing new seasons every single year in an age where other programs have two or even three year gaps between seasons.

And though keeping the shows on a regular schedule certainly helps make any Taylor Sheridan show successful, I like to think that it’s the actors and actresses in each respective show that act as the glue that holds everything together. Sheridan takes a lot of pride in casting, and will sometimes even create roles with a specific person in mind to play it (that’s what he did with Jon Hamm’s character in Landman).

He’ll also keep the names of actors and actresses that he’s worked with before in mind when roles become available in his other shows. There’s a long list of people that have starred in multiple Sheridan projects, with the most obvious name being Taylor Sheridan himself (appeared in Yellowstone, 1883, and Lioness). But others like Billy Bob Thornton (1883, Landman), Ali Larter (1923, Landman) Neal McDonough (Yellowstone, Tulsa King), and Sam Elliot (1883, soon to star in Landman) have also worked in multiple projects within the “Taylor Sheridan Universe.”

And that’s just scratching the surface.

There are plenty of other names that I could include, and there’s one addition to the list that was just announced. If you were a fan of 1923, you’ll be pleased to hear that Robert Patrick – who played Sheriff William McDowell in the Yellowstone prequel – has signed on to be play a big part of the Tulsa King cast for season 3. The cast already boasts the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Garrett Hedlund, Frank Grillo, and Samuel L. Jackson… so Patrick is a welcome addition to an already star-studded group.

Here’s to hoping that Robert Patrick delivers some more memorable scenes in the third season of Tulsa King like he did in 1923, and has done so throughout his entire career (he played T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, in case you needed a reminder):
