Rest in peace, cowboy.

The world lost a great cowboy. If you’ve spent any time out and about at rodeos or love watching the entertainment aspect of rodeos online, there is a chance that you have watched Bobby Kerr in action. Although not all our readers might be familiar with his name, there is a high probability that you’ve seen his famed act of horse riding in a convertible with him.

Rodeo fans are somberly mourning the loss of Bobby Kerr after learning the cowboy passed away on September 5, 2025, at the age of 67.

Kerr passed away after putting up a brave fight against esophageal cancer. Kerr was first diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2021. Kerr bravely battled the disease, with the tumor shrinking with chemotherapy treatment, but in 2023, the cancer had returned and spread to his stomach, liver, chest and lungs

After the cancer returned in 2023, Kerr chose to forgo treatment and to live the rest of his days doing what he loves- entertaining a rodeo crowd.

When he was told in 2024 that he was nearing the final stages of life, he still found a way to modify his act to entertain fans all over with his dogs and horses. Kerr defied many of his odds while he continued to travel and perform.

“We do whatever we can do for pain. We usually try to time it so it’s kicked in so I can do my performance. I’ve tweaked my performance a bit, doing stuff I know I can do.”

Kerr shared with the PRCA.

He truly lived his life to the fullest, enjoying every second doing what he loved.

Kerr was a dedicated horseman, spending over 50 years training horses, proving that he was one of the best horsemen. Kerr had a soft spot for the wild breed of Mustangs, including them in his acts. Kerr proved that he had his way with the often stubborn breed of equines, winning the Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover in 2012, and earning a spot as a finalist in the Mustang Million in 2014.

His talents earned the respect of the rodeo world, with his efforts being widely appreciated and celebrated. Kerr earned the honor of winning PRCA Specialty Act of the Year five times. In 2021, Kerr founded the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and was later honored by being inducted, earning a permanent spot as a rodeo legend.

Rest in peace, Bobby Kerr. I hope there are plenty of green pastures to ride through in Heaven.
