Ex-Arsenal starlet in induced coma as current club release statement

English football has sent its best wishes to former Arsenal prospect Billy Vigar after he suffered a serious brain injury. The forward, who is currently playing for Chichester City, has been placed into an induced coma after an incident in their Isthmian League Premier Division clash on Saturday. It has been reported that he collided with a concrete wall, but this has not been confirmed by the club. In a brief statement shortly after, Chichester wrote: “Chichester City Football Club can confirm that on Saturday September 20th one of our players sustained a serious injury in our match at Wingate & Finchley.” Vigar, a 21-year-old forward, came through at Arsenal’s famed academy, progressing from the under-18s to the verge of the first team with the under-21s. He then went on loan to Derby County and Eastbourne Borough from 2022 to 2024 before leaving the Gunners permanently. Initially joining Hastings United, Vigar has played four times this season with new side Chichester, scoring once. Responding to the news of his injury, former club Arsenal wrote: “Wishing you a speedy recovery, Billy. “Everyone at Arsenal sends love and support to Billy and his loved ones at this difficult time.” Arsenal were one of the first clubs to send their support Vigar signed his first professional contract at Arsenal in July 2022. At an announcement alongside academy director Per Mertesacker he said: “I’m absolutely delighted to sign my contract and I feel honoured to be in this position. “I can’t wait to push forward and see what I can achieve at this club and hopefully go further and get the best out of what I can do. “The main goal for everyone is to push forward to the first team so I just hope for the best and to develop and get there.” He continued: “I came into the academy game slightly later than other people so Arsenal is the only academy I’ve been at and they’ve always supported me and given me everything I needed. “When I got offered the professional contract there was no doubt I was going to sign it.” Crediting his family’s role, he said: “Without my mum and dad I wouldn’t be here today.
