Ella Langley’s latest single is a dream come true, and not because fans are eating up the bait-and-switch style of lyrics.
The Alabama native is keeping her edgy streak alive with her latest single, “Never Met Anyone Like You,” featuring Hardy. The song, which initially seemed like a love ballad, highlighting the captivating nature of a man, had fans begging for her to drop it from the moment she began teasing it on social media.
“All of my friends can’t quit talking about you
They’ve never been like this before
The way that you turn every head that’s around you
The second you walk through the door
Safe to say that you made me insane, even crazy
Got my whole world upside down…”
But Langley and Hardy tricked fans, switching up the song’s meaning in the last few lines of the tune, showcasing this “one in a million” was a POS.
“Cause you said it was us till the end (Till the end)
Then you went and hooked up with my friend (With my friend)
And you blamed it on me
Left me crying in pieces
Damn, what a piece of s***
Whoa…”
The switch-up in the tone instantly led fans to think that Langley was taking a jab at Riley Green, given the rumors that fans keep alive surrounding their relationship. However, Langley was quick to respond that this song was not about her “You Look Like You Love Me” duet partner.
The idea to make the song have the extreme switch in tone was actually one of her co-writers’ ideas: Hardy. During a show right after the song was released, Ella Langley took a second to share with her fans that working with Hardy was a dream come true.
“Before I moved to Nashville, I was listening to this guy named Hardy a lot. I played cover gigs for years, and I played four-hour shows. That’s a lot of covers in four hours, and “Boots” was one of them. I was in that man’s top 3% of listeners on Spotify like three years ago. And when I signed my publishing deal, which is the thing you sign to write with other people or whatever the sh**… You know Nashville, whatever, la la la.
I was like, don’t ask him (Hardy) to write, I know that’s one of my dream writes, but don’t ask him. I want him to come in wanting to do it. And it took six years to do that. Well, four years. Four years.”
Langley shares that she and Hardy grew close while she was on tour with him last year, but even then, she never asked him to schedule a writing session. But after the tour, she was surprised with a very generous gift from Hardy and a surprise writing session on her schedule.
“And we went on tour together last year, and he brought me on, and that was bada**. After the tour, he gave me this guitar, he gave me this Gibson guitar, which is what I play, and it took another year for him to get me that guitar. But we had a write together, and it wasn’t even supposed to happen. He had it on the books, and I didn’t. I said, ‘I’ll cancel everything. I got to. I’ll cancel everything.’
So I did, and me him and Jordan Schmidt wrote this song. And he came in with this idea. He said, ‘I want to write this song called “Never Met Anyone Like You,” but I want it to mean one thing the whole entire song, and then at the very end I want it to mean the complete opposite. And I was like, ‘Sick, I can’t wait to do math today, that’s awesome.’
And it was one of the coolest writes ever, and I got to write it on that guitar he gave me from the tour. So this is a big moment for me today to get to put out a song with someone I’ve looked up to for so long.”

Langley then jokes that she also loved teasing everyone that “Never Met Anyone Like You” was going to be a love song, and that was also a fun part of the creative process.
Langley and Hardy’s vocals pair perfectly together on this track, and the rock and roll feel at the end of the tune is evidence of Hardy’s influence.
Ella Langley is one of the hottest women in country music, and so it’s not surprising that some of the most prominent writers in Nashville want to work with her. Langley sat patiently and waited for her time to work with a music idol, and it paid off. I think this collaboration came at a time when she is in her prime and confident in her sound as an artist, leading to a tune that highlights both Langley and HARDY’s sound.
