The perfect pair.
Last night, Ella Langley opened for Morgan Wallen during his show at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin, where Miranda Lambert was also on hand as direct support on this leg of the I’m The Problem tour.
And he brought her out to help with one of his fan-favorite songs “What I Want,” which features Canadian pop star Tate McRae on the studio cut from his monster 37-song album I’m The Problem. The record has dominated the charts and remained at #1 on the Hot 100 weeks since it has been out, and it also debuted at the top of the all-genre Billboard 200 album chart.
Several of Morgan’s friends are featured on collaborations, but it’s his first ever duet with a female artist that has been the early runaway hit, and it landed on the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 chart upon debut (which consists of singles, rather than the album as a whole). Morgan had six songs from the record debut within the top 10, and “What I Want” is Morgan’s fourth Hot 100 chart topper and McRae’s first, though some of her fans didn’t seem too thrilled about it.
Morgan credits his sister for turning him on to Tate’s music, but the song itself was written by Morgan and Tate along with Jacob Kasher Hindlin, Ryan Vojtesak, John Byron and Joe Reeves.
I loved seeing Ella get a chance to shine during the sold-out stadium show, though, and she was the perfect fill-in and it’s the first time on this tour I think Morgan has had a duet partner for it… up until now, he had been singing it solo.
Of course, getting to sing for a massive crowd like this alongside Morgan is a huge opportunity, so regardless of how you feel about him, Ella certainly had a dream come true last night and she deserves every bit of it. I definitely would’ve preferred this combo on the studio cut…
