Ed Sheeran Once Took Luke Combs To Twin Peaks Because He Thought Nobody Would Bother Them: “Dude, You’ve Taken Me Into The Beehive”

I’m gonna lie, I’m pretty intrigued about Ed Sheeran’s move to Nashville and what that could mean for his place in country music moving forward.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, English superstar Ed Sheeran (the super talented, red headed, wizard on the looper), recently confessed that he would like to dive into making a country album, but if he ever did, he would go all the way country and never look back. He added that he would also move from England and relocate his family to Nashville.

Here’s the full quote:

“I think there’s (a chance I do a country album). I guess so. From living in Nashville, you can’t just dip your toe in. If I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it, and that’s it. I’ve made country songs in the past; they’ve just never come out. I have to do it properly, and once you transition to country, you can’t transition back. Once you’re there, you’re there.”

And then even more recently, he told The 2 Johnnies Podcast that the move was imminent:

“I’m just about to move to America. I feel like I might be the only person moving to America. I’m going on tour there for a while and I have a family so I can’t dip in and out. We’re going and settling there.”

So it could be coming relatively soon? And much like Post Malone, Ed seems willing to fully ingratiate himself into the industry… we know he’s already good friends with Luke Combs. But that actually reminds me of the entire point of this blog… one of the funniest stories I’ve ever heard regarding Luke Combs and Ed Sheeran’s friendship.

As it turns out, Ed Sheeran is a BIG Twin Peaks guy.. but, it’s probably not the reason you’d suspect. Twin Peaks is a chain “brestaurant” in the same vein as Tilted Kilt or Hooters, where the scantily clad servers help middle age dads suck down cheap beer and wings while they relive their glory years… you know, back when young, attractive women would give them the time of day.

Beer and bar food, the menu is generally nothing to write home about, but for a global superstar like Ed Sheeran, it’s the kind of place where he can go and drink a beer in peace, instead of being mobbed by his millions and millions of adoring fans. The clientele at Twin Peaks, AKA middle aged men, are much more focused on, well… all the “twin peaks” in the room and not so much the British pop star that their 8-year-old daughter is listening to. So… it’s easy to see why Ed likes to hide there.

So… a few years back on the Bobby Bones Show, Luke got to talking about his rising fame and whether or not he can go out in public without being pestered by fans nonstop. Luke said that it really just depended on the place and you go and you have to be smarter about it (AKA go places where a lot of your fans don’t go). That’s what Ed does at Twin Peaks… go where his fans don’t go.

So when Ed Sheeran was in Nashville and wanted to meet up with Luke Combs in secret, he took him to Twin Peaks thinking it wouldn’t be a madhouse. And let’s just say that Ed was very, very wrong… and to make matters worse, this was the first time they ever hung out.

Luke detailed the hilarious story:

“The first time I ever hung out with Ed Sheeran was at the Twin Peaks in Brentwood. He had hit me up and was like, ‘hey let’s hang out,’ and it’s where he told me he was. I was like… ‘Um, ok….’

So I’m on the way, it’s me and my wife, and I was like, ‘Hey man, just checking that we’re going… here?’ And he was like ‘yeah, yeah dude we’re here, come on.’

And all of the sudden these people start coming up, and coming up, and coming up… and he was like, ‘Dude, I’m really sorry nobody ever bothers me here.’ And I was like, ‘Dude, you’ve taken me into the beehive.’ Like if I took you to a wine bar and was all like, ‘Dude, no one ever bothers me at this wine bar, but then you showed up, it would be different.’

The only thing that would be worse would be like ‘Hey man, do you wanna go sit in the stands at the NASCAR race?'”

Unfortunately for Luke Combs… the Twin Peaks clientele are same folks that pack arenas every night when he’s on tour. Nothing wrong with that, but utterly hysterical that Ed didn’t quite piece that together. At the same time, how wild would it be to be sitting in Twin Peaks and all of the sudden Luke Combs and Ed Sheeran are sitting over there? I don’t think anyone would believe it…

Luke has a habit of finding himself in hilarious situations, and tells a story like no other… give it a listen:

Luke Combs Performs “Dive” With Ed Sheeran

Luke Combs brought out one of England’s own during his show across the pond in London a few years back. At the last show of C2C fest, he brought pop superstar Ed Sheeran out on stage to sing Sheeran’s hit, “Dive.”

Luke has a history of covering this song and even recorded it for a Spotify Sessions back in 2018. So if those two every got in the same room together, you know they were gonna have to have a go at it.

“Dive” was written by Ed along with Benny Blanco and Julia Michaels, it was included on his third studio album ÷ (Divide), eventually peaking at #8 on the UK Singles Chart.

Overall, C2C Festival is definitely one to put on the bucket list. Spanning three countries in Europe, taking place in London, Glasgow and Dublin… it’s a once in a lifetime experience for a country music fan. All there’s left to do now is get Ed in the studio and drop some vocals for LC6

“Covered ‘Dive’ countless times, but this was by far the coolest! Thanks to my buddy Ed Sheeran for joining me on stage in London!”
