Arsenal’s striker hunt for the summer window is starting to sharpen – and according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Gunners are now firmly focusing on two main targets.
Previously linked moves for Alexander Isak and Victor Osimhen now appear unlikely. Ornstein reports that a move for Isak is considered unrealistic due to Newcastle’s reluctance to sell and the high financial package it would require. Meanwhile, Osimhen – once touted as a potential Arsenal signing – is not currently part of the teams realistic striker options, with Napoli’s valuation and contract complications proving major obstacles.
Instead, Arsenal’s striker shortlist is centering around two stars attracting interest across Europe. Viktor Gyökeres, fresh off a remarkable couple of season at Sporting CP, continues to impress scouts, while Benjamin Šeško has emerged as a dynamic force at RB Leipzig. Both players fit the Gunners’ profile for a mobile, powerful, and goal-hungry number nine.
The Gunners are determined to add firepower to Mikel Arteta’s squad as they look to build on another strong campaign. As Fresh Arsenal recently explored in our recent newsletter, there are several options, with Gyokeres and Sesko both good solutions.
According to The Athletic (read their latest report), no final decision has yet been made, but both Gyökeres and Šeško are now seen as the most realistic options. Arsenal’s transfer team, including new sporting director Andrea Berta, are expected to accelerate discussions in the coming weeks.
It seems the club were previously focussed on Sesko, but Berta appears keen on Gyokeres, so it will be interesting to see which way they go.
