A wild scene at the deer head shop.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife, Amy, recently launched a new podcast called Bless Your Hardt as part of his Dirty Mo Media empire, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. They have such a great dynamic and tell some really funny stories, and this is another hilarious one.
Amy was talking about how she went to her monthly Bunco night to play with her friends, and they always have a theme. This time, it was “Redneck America,” and while she said she didn’t have much red, white and blue or anything like that, she wore ripped jeans, a white tank top and orange bra that was showing some, then she got her husband to sign her cleavage… brilliant.
She wins automatically… nothing can top that.
But she said she only asked him to because she knew he had done it before, and it let Jr. to tell a great story from his younger years when he was working for his dad at the deer head shop, which was where DEI was before they built their larger office.
He explained the “hazing” that goes on when you’re a teenager around a bunch of guys in racing, and it was during one of his big birthdays, when he turned either 18 or 21, and they thought it would be funny to mess with him by bringing in a female cop to do a special dance. So they made him sit in a chair in the middle of the room in front of everyone, and as Jr. puts it, he obviously turned “red as crap”:
“This takes me back. So when you’re when you’re 15, 16, 17 all the way up to about 20 or 21… and I don’t I’m not sure what it’s like for women, but man. You’re in racing, you’re around your dad, you’re around his buddies, and there’s always sort of some hazing going. They always are trying to throw you into situations that’ll make you uncomfortable, that they know we’ll make you uncomfortable.
I remember, I think for my 18th or 21st birthday, one of them two, they had a lady cop show up to the shop, at the deer head shop. So a lot of a lot of Earnhardt fans will know about the deer head shop. I was working in the Deer head shop, dressed in my black work pants, had a white Dale Earnhardt Incorporated Dale Jr. shirt. I mean, I was all about it.
And I was racing probably late models around this time, I don’t know, I was young. But it was it an important birthday, 21, 18, something like that. And they had a lady cop come in there, and put me set me down in a chair right in the middle of the floor in front of everybody. So that was that was one that was… they set me in a chair just like this. She stripped.”
Amy joked that it sounded like a scene out of Days of Thunder, and Jr. said that’s exactly what it was:
“It was. It was very “Days of Thunder’ like. It was a set up, and it was really embarrassing, and all the guys, they’re laughing right. Because they see I’m turning red as crap.”
The woman apparently was in on it too, and Jr. said he even has pictures, which I am dying to see… that’s too good:
“I don’t know, man. It’s what she does. I have pictures of this event. Not like me and her, hey, let’s grab a photo. I have a couple pictures of it happening, and they’re terrible. They’re like the little 5×8 and they’re kind of blurry.
You’ll be able to see it… I mean, she didn’t get naked, she just kind of had a little dance, but it was so embarrassing and awkward. Tony Sr. and Dad‘s buddies, you know, they would kind of put you in the scenarios that were awkward like that.”
It sounds like no one was safe around the early days of DEI at the shop, and I have to know if Dale Sr. was there, or even knew about it… because I can only imagine him walking in on this whole scene.
It’s such a funny story, and you can watch him tell the fully thing here:
