What a cool way to give back.

It’s been almost a month since Texas was devastated by the flooding of the Guadalupe River. This flood, caused by excessive rain from Tropical Storm Barry, destroyed communities, left nearly 160 missing, and claimed over 135 lives— including 27 children who were attending Camp Mystic summer camp.

It been a horrific tragedy for everyone in that region, and many of country music’s most beloved Texans have stepped up to help with recovery aid by putting on benefit concerts, including George Strait, Miranda Lambert, Koe Wetzel and more.

There were so many victims due to this storm who lost everything, but there were also some inspiring stories of bravery from first responders who helped with rescue and recovery efforts and stepped up in a huge way when they were needed the most. and in an effort to give back just a little bit for their sacrifice, Cross Canadian Ragweed has put aside 200 tickets for first responders to attend their show at McLane Stadium on the Baylor University campus in Waco, Texas on Saturday, August 23rd.

Frontman Cody Canada and his family, and bassist Jeremy Plato have called Texas home for over 20 years, and they are working with local authorities to get these distributed. They will also release a few more tickets for the general public to purchase this Friday, August 1st, and all proceeds from the sale of these tickets will go to a handful of charities benefiting flood victims.

Of course, it was first announced back in October of 2024 that the beloved Red Dirt band is getting back together, at least for a few shows, at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma. This Texas concert stands as an “encore” to the band’s initial 4 sold-out reunion shows last April, and it’s is coming at a perfect time to not only celebrate the band’s first return to Texas as a band in over 15 years, but to also celebrate the astonishing and awe-inspiring strength of Texans.

The stadium concert will take place on August 23rd, alongside a stacked group of openers in Turnpike Troubadours, Wade Bowen, Shane Smith and the Saints, and American Aquarium.

It’s going to be a truly incredible show, and an incredible bill from top to bottom… obviously, seeing Ragweed together will be a highlight for everyone, but all of those bands are great so it’s awesome that they’ll all be part of the reunion show too.

Cross Canadian Ragweed was Formed in Stillwater, Oklahoma in the mid-90s, and became a cornerstone of the Red Dirt movement before calling it quits in 2010, with frontman Cody Canada and Jeremy Plato going on to form Cody Canada and the Departed. Ahead of all of these very exciting shows, frontman Cody Canada will return to the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast next week for a great episode, where we will of course ask him about how this all came to be, how he changed his mind on the band “never getting back together,” the beginnings and glory days of Ragweed and so much more.

While it’s incredible sad and tragic what so many in Texas have been through, the first responders deserve so much thanks and praise for the way they helped and performed heroic acts for their fellow Texans, and this is an incredibly cool way to do it, making for an evening I’m sure none of them will ever forget. The post Cross Canadian Ragweed Is Giving Free Tickets To First Responders For Texas Stadium Show Following Devastating Flood first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
