Cody Johnson Is Thrilled His Baby Boy Will Be Born Into A Ranching Family: “He’s Going To Be A Little Buckaroo”

Cody Johnson and his wife Brandi are expecting their first baby boy this fall.

At the ACM Awards, the couple debuted Brandi’s baby bump, sharing with the world their family of four would be growing to a family of five.

Even though Cody Johnson is a stellar girl dad, singing heartfelt songs about his two daughters, Clara Mae and Cori, like “C’mon Cowgirl,” he is thrilled to be adding a little boy to their crew. In a recent interview with SiriusXM’s The Highway, Johnson told host Cody Alan that he’s very excited to raise a little cowboy.

Given that the two debuted their bump on the ACM red carpet, Johnson thinks that it will be a cool memory for his son to see that he was at an awards show where his dad took home a high honor.

“He’ll grow up and be like, ‘Oh, I was there.” I’m like, ‘Yeah, you were there when I won Song of the Year.'”

Alan then asked Johnson how Brandi had revealed she was pregnant, and Brandi had cleverly done so by having him come out to the barn to help her upload some items after she had gone into town. Johnson was assuming it would be some heavy lifting, but was shocked to find that Brandi only needed help moving some “tiny” boxes.

“So Brandi did this weird thing where she was like, she texted me, she ran to town, and she’s like, ‘Hey, can you come out to the barn and help me unload my truck?’ And I was like, ‘Okay.’ Like, you know, I go out there and it’s this like little bitty box and I’m like, ‘You 100% could have done this yourself.’

And so I unload the box, and she’s like, ‘Oh, and I do have one more thing in there if you can get that.’ And I’m like, ‘Okay.’ It’s this little bitty box. I unload it, and I’m trying to figure out what’s going on. And she’s like, ‘Oh, by the way, here you can have this too.’ And it was a pregnancy test.”

Johnson immediately was filled with joy and explained to Alan that he was really excited to do cowboy things with his little boy. Although Johnson did not grow up on a ranch, he has always had a love for rodeoing and the Western way of life. Growing up, Johnson rode bulls, and now he loves to team rope when he’s not on the road.

Now, as a ranch owner, Johnson is over the moon that he gets to raise a child on a farm and nurture them in that environment.

“I didn’t get to live the cowboy life for a long time. I had to kind of earn my way to the point where I could afford to say, ‘We’re gonna go buy a ranch and we’re doing this.’ So the fact that he’s gonna be born on, you know, into a cattle ranch, that’s gonna be cool, man.

He’s gonna be the little, I promise you, the little buckaroo riding around with six shooters on.”

While Cody and Brandi Johnson are thrilled to be expanding their family, it sounds like their two little girls might have their excitement beat. Johnson shared that his daughter, Carla, who rarely shows emotion, broke down in tears when her parents told her.

“Clara, my oldest, we call her the cry police because if you ever like tear up over a movie or something, she’ll look you up and down. She’s like, ‘Are you crying?’… Yeah. I was crying and she burst into tears, happy though, ‘Oh my God, I’m gonna be a big sister.’ And then Cori does it too, so that’s awesome.

They keep calling it our baby. ‘Well, when our baby gets here, when our baby we are.’ And I’m like, ‘This is not a we, y’all are still kids.’ But then it hit me. I’ve built in babysitters. Clara’s 10, Cori’s 8. So like, this boy is screwed.”

This little boy is going to be in good hands. Johnson shared that their due date is around October 25th, but given that some babies choose to make an early appearance, they will just be happy to have a healthy child whenever baby boy wants to make his entrance into the world.
