At least they get to spend 4th of July in America?
Yesterday, Cody Jinks announced that his shows this weekend in Canada were canceled because Canadian border officials were not allowing his production trucks across the border. He did not give an official reason as to exactly why they weren’t allowed to cross, but nonetheless, his shows on the 4th and 5th, in Abbotsford, BC, and Kelowna, BC have been canceled.
In a post on social media, he explained his trucks were “forced to turn around” by the Canada Border Services Agency,” and it was a “logistic impossibility” to get them in for an undisclosed reason:
“While attempting to cross the border into Canada, my production trucks were forced to turn around and head back to the United States by the Canada Border Services Agency. Getting them into Canada was made a logistic impossibility despite following all the prescribed procedures given to us.
I had to make the difficult decision to cancel the shows on July 4th and 5th. It is incredibly important to me that everyone who spends their hard-earned money to see a show gets the absolute best experience possible, and right now, that standard just can’t be met without my trucks. It kills me to have to do this because putting on these shows for you guys has always been the greatest joy of my career, but unfortunately, my hands are tied.
Refunds will be automatically credited to the original method of payment within 30 days.”
Of course, it would be pretty difficult to put on a full-on Cody Jinks show without all of the equipment it takes to put on a production like he does, and those trucks carries tons of stuff like instruments like guitars, microphones, drums, and keyboards to audio and visual production equipment, including mixing boards, monitors, video displays, and more.
While it’s unclear what those trucks were carrying, or possibly who was driving that made them get rejected at the border, but it’s apparent that they were holding essential equipment for Cody’s show. It’s heartbreaking for the ticket holders, especially because the good people Canada (I said people, not the politicians) don’t get to see great country music as often as we do in the states. But Jinks is doing the right thing by ensuring that everyone gets a full refund, and I’m sure he will find a way to bring his music across the border eventually to make it up to them.
While Cody remained professional over the ordeal, his tour opener and frequent collaborator, the very talented Ward Davis, let the Canadian officials have it on X. He is never one to shy away from speaking his mind, and he certainly wasn’t happy with what happened. Using his signature blend of sarcastic humor, he said the “Canadian Country Music Defense System was fully operational” yesterday, in addition to using some much more colorful language to describe how they “kept a lot of people from going to work this weekend.”
He also pointed out how outrageous he felt it was that the border guards kept them from simply coming into the country to play music:
“The Canadian Country Music Defense System was fully operational yesterday, and turned Jinks’ trucks around with all their everything still packed inside, leaving the man no choice. And just like that, we ain’t playing in Canada now. I’d like to thank the Canadian border guards that chose to be petty little ham-eating d*** balls, and that kept a lot of people from going to work this weekend.
And for all the problems we have in this world, we should thank God that we have these denim warriors keeping songwriters out of Canada. The last thing people need is music. Seriously.”
Tell us how you really feel, Ward:

On the bright side, hopefully Jinks and the rest of his crew can spend some time with family and friends shooting off fireworks and celebrating our nation this weekend instead.
