Coach Ed Orgeron Has Been Spotted At The Ryder Cup Leading “USA” Chants
Coach O truly is living his best life. Ed Orgeron, better known as “Coach O,” has clearly been enjoying his post-coaching retirement. Coach O truly is living his best life.
Ed Orgeron, better known as “Coach O,” has clearly been enjoying his post-coaching retirement. With his successful college football background, he could go back to coaching really anytime he wants to. However, he seems to be really enjoying his time off, which is being funded by that last severance check that he hilariously and happily accepted from LSU.
If you somehow missed that part of Coach O’s story, here’s the video that went viral when he and the SEC powerhouse parted ways:
I absolutely love that “What time do you want me to leave and what door do you want me out of?” line. Might go down as one of the most iconic lines in all of sports history.
Hard to believe that Coach O and LSU separated back in October of 2021. Seems like it was just yesterday that the swamp monster known as Ed Orgeron was stomping up and down the Louisiana State University sidelines and yelling in his patented (and unprecedented) bayou accent.
The good news is that Coach O – now 64-years-old – isn’t completely off the map. He pops up from time to time in videos online of him running around shirtless (it’s true), and it even appears that he’s going to play a big role in this weekend’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York.
It’s Team U.S.A. versus Team Europe in a three-day, match play extravaganza… and I couldn’t be more pumped about it.
From what I understand, he’s not exactly a part of the team, but he could help out the American team a lot simply by being there at the golf course. Captain Keegan Bradley could have made Coach O a vice captain or some other title, but like I said… Ed Orgeron will be plenty effective just roaming the grounds and getting people fired up.
He already ran into golf analyst Smylie Kaufman today, and let out a “Go Tigers” for good measure:
I love the idea that Team U.S.A. seemingly made a call to bring any loud-mouthed, red-blooded American icon that’s available to help rally the troops to Bethpage. I like to think they called Coach O to see if he’d attend the Ryder Cup and help get the crowd revved up, and he responded similarly to how he reacted to his buyout:
“When time do you want me there and what chants do you want me to lead?”
To be clear, I can’t confirm that Coach O said that. But I can confirm that Ed Orgeron was spotted in the stands at the practice round ahead of the weekend’s competition teaching the crowd how to do a “USA!” chant, and then helping them execute it to perfection:
Coach O is simply a national treasure.
And he truly could play a huge role in helping Team U.S.A. topple Team Europe this weekend. I really hope that he sticks around for the weekend and continues to spark the energy for the American team in the way that only he can. Let the record show that an out-of-a-job football coach could very well help the Team U.S.A. win the 2025 Ryder Cup.
Team U.S.A. needs as much Coach O inspired energy as we can get to win the Ryder Cup on our home turf this weekend. Cue up the America chants, and don’t be afraid to poke fun at the European team, like these fans did earlier today:
