It’s been nearly two years since the West Virginia native released his highly regarded Family Ties album. Some might call that his “breakout record,” and some might say How The Mighty Fall was his big break, but here at Whiskey Riff, he’s captured our hearts ever since Seneca dropped in 2019.

Did his 2023 album help him become more of a household name in country music? Sure, but he had already introduced himself to the music world – and put himself on the map – long before that.

That was all achieved through hard work and dedication to his craft. Godwin has been a stellar songwriter from the very beginning, and even after Family Ties was released and met with praise, the “All Again” singer continued to put his head down and write. He estimates that he wrote close to 30 songs in 2024 alone, and that’s how Lonely Mountain Town found itself a home as an EP that was released back in February of this year.

And now in July, Chuck is putting together a bit of a passion project that brings together a lot of his more well-known songs (and one cover) and calling it “The Hometown Sessions.” The talented country singer has been sharing snippets of him playing different songs up on stage in July, and those all finally fit together like puzzle pieces yesterday when he shared this exciting announcement:

“Earlier this year, the Allegheny High and I worked with Justin Clough to film some performance videos for y’all at The Metropolitan Theater, one of my favorite venues in my hometown of Morgantown, West Virginia. We chose some of our favorite songs to perform live, and even reworked a few, like this version of ‘She Don’t Love Me Anymore.’

So next week, we’ll begin introducing The Hometown Sessions on my YouTube channel, featuring full performances of the songs below. Subscribe to my YouTube channel at the link below to make sure you don’t miss any of what’s coming. Can’t wait for y’all to see these! “

Reworked versions of some of CWG’s best songs? I’m here for it.

Godwin shared a list of the songs that he and the Allegheny High will be releasing as a part “The Hometown Sessions,” which were recorded and artfully captured in the beautiful Metropolitan Theater in Morgantown, West Virginia:

-“Whitehouse Road”

-“All Again”

-“Strawberry Queen”

-“Hardwood Floors”

-“She Don’t Love Me Anymore”

-“It’s The Little Things”

-“Lonely Mountain Town”

-“Seneca Creek”

Pretty good tracklist right there.

And if you can’t wait until next week to hear some of the re-imagined songs from Charles Wesley Godwin, the good news is that he’s already released some teaser clips of a number of the songs. Like I mentioned before, they’ve been released on CWG’s socials throughout the whole month of July… and soon they’ll all come together to form “The Hometown Sessions.”
