Jelly Roll wasn’t the only one who was giving back during Thanksgiving week.
The DeFord family was making big moves in the community last week ahead of Thanksgiving. Of course, many of us are fortunate enough to be surrounded by loved ones during the holiday season, but for those facing personal or financial struggles, the holidays can be a time of stress. Giving back to those in need during this time ensures that they have a comforting meal and the hope that there are people out there who care about their well-being.
Ahead of Thanksgiving, Jelly Roll returned to a place from his past, speaking to inmates at a correctional facility where he once did time. In addition to speaking with the current inmates, Jelly Roll also provided a meal to over 300 inmates and staff.
“Moments like this show the impact one person can make when they choose to lift others up. Thank you, Jelly Roll, for turning your past into purpose.”
Nashville Sheriff Daron Hall shared in a social media post.
While Jelly Roll was doing good, giving back to the community over the holidays, his lovely bride, Bunnie Xo, also deserves recognition for her part in giving back this holiday season. Bunnie Xo teamed up with The Mary Parish Center, a Nashville organization that helps women who are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, to give them a Thanksgiving meal.
Teaming up with the Mary Parish Center was a very intentional choice for Bunnie Xo, who is a survivor of domestic assault.
“Going through a relationship personally around 2013 to 2016, with my own domestic violence relationship, has just made this mission for myself even more of wanting to give back to the women and children that are going through this because I know how hard it is to get out.”
Bunnie Xo knows that sometimes doing the right thing, like leaving a relationship like this, is not always easy, and you are often left picking up the pieces as you start over in your new life. Bunnie Xo shared an image from her abuse with Extra TV during her exclusive interview, sharing more about her experience in her forthcoming book as well. The photo shows Bunnie Xo with a very swollen black eye from her abuser. Bunnie shared that she hopes women can see her as a trusted point of contact, knowing she’s gone through a similar situation to theirs, and hopes to serve as a reminder that it does get better once you leave.
“I shared that photo in the hopes that women can be like, ‘Okay, she’s been where I’m at, and she gets it.’ I want somebody to that I can relate to and I want these women to know I have been exactly where they are. And I just want to lift them up and make them feel so good and loved and know that they are doing the right thing.”
Bunnie Xo and her team provided Thanksgiving dinner fixings to the women of the Mary Parish Center and assembled care packages for women in transitional housing.
While I am sure that the Mary Parish Center was grateful for that alone, Bunnie Xo went the extra mile and surprised the executive director, Mary Catherine, with a $25,000 donation to the center.
This is a cause that is evidently near and dear to Bunnie Xo’s heart, and it’s incredible to see her give back to those in need. While the holidays are special because you get to spend time with loved ones, taking a few hours to give back is what makes this season even more special.
I am sure that all the women who received care packages were beyond grateful to Bunnie Xo and her team for thinking of them during this time.
