A Chris Stapleton-Penned Jason Aldean Song From 2014 Has Gained New Life After Going Viral On TikTok

An underrated deep cut.
If you’re on TikTok, you’ve probably heard Jason Aldean‘s 2014 song “Too Fast,” as the song has gone insanely viral and gained new life thanks to a new trend on the social media app.
But did you know that the song was written by none other than Chris Stapleton?
“Too Fast” was featured on Aldean’s sixth studio album, Old Boots, New Dirt, which was released back in 2014. The song was never released as a single, but it was clearly a fan favorite and sits as the most streamed non-single on the album. (It’s a shame that it wasn’t a single because it’s far and away one of the best songs on the album, and way better than the album’s lead single “Burnin’ It Down.”)
Written by Stapleton along with Lee Thomas Miller (who also wrote “In Color” with Jamey Johnson, among his many hits), it’s easy to look at the lyrics and see why it’s a standout in Aldean’s catalog:
“Wanna be the man that you thought I was
I wanna be the man that made you fall in love
I can’t undo everything I’ve done
Let me tell you right now
That, baby, you’re the only one
I don’t wanna be a restless soul
Runnin’ on empty, burnin’ up the road
Never knowin’ what I’m tryna find
While the wheels keep turnin’ in the back of my mind
I don’t wanna take the long way home
Sleepin’ in a roadside room alone
Head in the clouds, foot on the gas
Livin’ my life too fast”
Though it was never a radio single, it’s become a viral hit on TikTok as part of a new trend of parents showing off their kids as proof they were “meant to be” parents. (Not entirely related to the song, but I get what they’re trying to do).
And of course, the renewed popularity of the song has also resulted in a ton of covers:

@trinitylakemusic Living my life too fasttt #singing #sing #cover #country #toofast @Jason Aldean ♬ original sound – Trinity Lake
Of course it’s just one of many gems that Stapleton’s written that have been recorded by other artists. From hits like “Your Man” by Josh Turner, “Drink A Beer” by Luke Bryan and “Love’s Gonna Make It Alright” by George Strait, to deep cuts like “Independent Trucker” by Brooks & Dunn and “The Best Thing I Had Going” by Brad Paisley, it seems like Stapleton can’t miss when he puts pen to paper (we won’t talk about “Crash and Burn” by Thomas Rhett, that one might have been better with different production).
I know people have a lot of thoughts on Aldean, especially fans of more traditional country and those who stand firmly against bro-country. But there’s simply no denying that he has some incredible songs in his catalog, songs like “The Truth,” “Why,” “Texas Was You,” and TikTok’s latest viral hit, “Too Fast.”The post A Chris Stapleton-Penned Jason Aldean Song From 2014 Has Gained New Life After Going Viral On TikTok first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
