Who wins in a battle between a golf cart and a bull elk?
We’re currently right in the middle of elk rut season, so it’s no surprise that this sizable elk tried to take on a moving vehicle. It’s normal for bull elk to be more aggressive and vocal from September to November. That’s generally the time of the year when they start “acting up,” and it’s all just to establish dominance and hopefully secure a female mate.
The bull elk in this video captured by “GoodBullGuided” evidently doesn’t care who he has to take on to impress the ladies. A person getting too close? No problem. Another bull elk cramping his style? He’ll happily clash with him. A golf cart that drives by in a non-threatening way? You best believe it’s gonna get the antlers.
The footage below appears to come out of Rocky Mountain National Park. It’s estimated that over 280,000 elk live in Colorado, which is enough to give the state the honor of housing the largest concentrated population of elk in the world. That type of population brings in tourists from all over the planet, and one of the more popular places you’ll find elk and tourists sharing space is near Rocky Mountain National Park.
Estes Park, Colorado kind of acts as a home base for the national park. Elk are almost always moving through and around the city limits, and herds occasionally take over Estes Park. The people that call the town home are often witnesses to elk-on-elk encounters… or in rare cases, elk-on-golf-cart battles.
A sizable bull elk (that is supposedly nicknamed “Smash”) was standing near a couple of cows (female elk) when it set its eyes on a golf cart driving its way. The photographer nearby saw the tension building and turned their camera towards the bull elk. Sure enough, as the small vehicle drove by – and got a little too close for comfort for the elk – the bull went running after it with it’s antlers-blazing.
It was a close call, but the golf cart driver didn’t seem to mind. They just kept puttering along as the bull elk charged the back of the cart, and then pulled up on its attack after it successfully landed a blow to the trash can that was on the back of the vehicle. Afterwards, the wild animal stood its ground and watched as the cart raced off away from him and his presumed girlfriends.

Someone could have yelled “fore,” eh?
If that bull elk really is nicknamed “Smash,” I’d say he lived up to his moniker. He certainly gave a good smashing to the golf cart’s rear-mounted trash can. And according to some witnesses, that’s just the kind of thing that particular bull elk is known for. Social media users left some observations (and jokes) in the comment section below the post:
“This is a feisty bull. I saw him attacking a golf bag/clubs last week.”
“Never know when a cart is gonna poach a cow!”
“HEY! You never asked if we minded if you could play through!”
“That bull elk said, ‘Yeah you better run.'”
“Wow! Stay away from his ladies.”The post Bull Elk Goes Antler-First After Golf Cart In Rocky Mountain National Park first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
