Brent Cobb can do it all.

One of country music’s foremost storytellers, he has written mainstream country hits recorded by the genre’s biggest names and has forged an iconic solo career as one of the most prominent artist in today’s “outlaw” country music scene alongside artists like Jamey Johnson, Shooter Jennings, and more. Going about business his own way and grinding for everything he’s earned in his long career, Cobb is a deft lyricist with distinctly soulful vocals, and he boasts an extensive and diverse catalog of outstanding music.

While today’s non-mainstream country music scene seems to be dominated by artists from Oklahoma, Texas, and Kentucky, Cobb’s sound, stories, and influences are rooted in the rich musical tradition of the American South, staying true to his central Georgia roots into his self-dubbed “southern eclectic” sound that features elements, of country, blues, soul, folk, and southern rock music.

And in his latest album, Cobb has leaned into the latter of those sonic inspirations more so than ever before. Titled Ain’t Rocked in a While, Cobb’s 7th studio album marks his first project recorded with his touring band The Fixin’s and features 10 brand new southern rock and roll tunes produced by long-time collaborator Oran Thornton. Channeling the rock and roll energy of his live show, each track has a swampy, edgy feel that fans have come accustomed to hearing in concert, but maybe not quite as used to hearing in Cobb’s recordings.

Announcing the album with the release of the title track “Ain’t Rocked in a While” as the lead single back in April, Cobb set the tone for the project early and kept his foot on the gas as anticipation surrounding the record grew and the release date drew closer. Following that one up with the hard-driving tune “Even If It’s Broke” in May and the high-octane “Take Yer Medicine” in June, he’s been providing glimpses of the album for months at this point, but now that it’s finally here, it’s safe to say Ain’t Rocked in a While exceeds the already lofty expectations.

A songwriter’s songwriter who has long had the respect of his critics and peers alike within the industry, Cobb had his hands in the writing in each track on the album  but also collaborated with a who’s who list of talented co-writers to bring it all together. Give Brent Cobb’s brand new record a listen for yourself. Here’s a few early favorites:

“Do It All the Time”

“In Our Hands”

“Power Man”

“Beyond Measure (Fixin’s)”

If these songs don’t fire you up, I don’t know what will.

And they sound even better live. Brent Cobb & the Fixin’s have an extensive tour planned for the rest of the summer and well into the fall, so get out there and get rockin’ with Cobb and Co.
