Ben Chapman is one of the most underrated artists out there.

He has steadily been releasing spectacular music since his debut single “Hippie Speedball” in 2021, and has been establishing a strong following as a touring musician and earning the respect of his peers as a songwriter in Nashville for much longer. A talented lyricist whose songs have been cut by bands like Muscadine Bloodline and Flatland Cavalry, among others, Chapman’s catalog of originals not only showcases his songwriting ability but also his uniquely southern sound.

Drawing inspiration from Somewhere between Brent Cobb and Daniel Donato on the southern sonic spectrum, Chapman really seemed to take a step into his own this past December with the release of his latest albumTitled Downbeat, the 10 track project produced by Anderson East featured 9 originals and a deep cut Bob Dylan cover, and in my opinion, is high up there on the list of last year’s must-listen albums.

And now just a few months later, the Lafayette, GA native is already back at it with new music, dealing perspective in his brand new single “Humming in My Head.” His first release since Downbeat, “Humming in My Head” hit streaming platforms today and features a more stripped-back, acoustic sound that directs the listener’s focus to the heartfelt and reflect lyrics. Give it a listen here:

“Who’s to say if it’s ever done
Am I nearly there or have I only just begun
Reckon I still got some bridges left to burn
Yeah but what’s the point of livin’ if there’s nothing left to learn?”

Reflecting on the notion that everyone always has room to improve and plenty to learn all throughout life, “Humming in My Head” was co-written alongside Mando Saenz as well as Chapman’s wife and frequent collaborator Meg McRee, who is an exceptional artist in her own right. With a life changing 2025 in store, McRee and Chapman not only tied the not earlier this year, but also announced recently that they are expecting a baby boy this fall. While “Humming in My Head” was presumably written prior to this news, the song seems to take on an added layer of meaning as they begin this exciting next chapter in their lives and careers.

Anyway, if you liked the new song, here are a few more of my favorites from Chapman’s catalog.

“Downbeat”

“Almost Home”

“Georgia Dreamin'”

As great as the recordings sound, though, Ben Chapman is even better live. With an electric band and a heavily improvised southern rock show that’ll have you hanging on to every word and guitar lick, a Ben Chapman concert is reminiscent in many ways of what the Allman Brothers were doing 50 years ago.

Luckily for you, there are plenty of opportunities to see for yourself this summer. Check out Ben Chapman’s tour dates below.
