This past week, the Falcons and the Tennessee Titans met up at Atlanta’s practice facility for some joint practices. It’s a common thing for NFL teams during their training camp period. Practicing with other teams gives a chance for coaches to see how their players stack up against other, not-yet-seen personnel.
The Titans media team – which once put out arguably the best schedule reveal in NFL history – decided to take advantage of the opportunity by asking Tennessee players to shout out Atlanta-based artists, and Falcons players to name their favorite country music artists.
One could even make an argument that the country genre has really become popular in a number of sports leagues. Whether its the MLB, NHL, NFL or the NBA (shoutout to Jimmy Butler for being a huge country fan on accident), professional athletes are listening to a lot of country music in the modern age.
It’s funny to think that those clips showing the world’s most athletic human beings listening to music through their headphones in their respective locker rooms could be “locking in” for the game by firing up some Luke Combs or Eric Church.
Atlanta Falcons players were certainly familiar with the country music genre when they were asked to name country artists. Falcons long snapper Liam McCullough was really intrigued by the question, and had some follow up questions before he gave his answer:
“Country artists… we going new country? Old country? I feel like this is like when people name random NBA players. Like, give me a random 90s country artist.”
That’s the spirit. And for the record, there’s nothing better than sitting around with the boys (or the gals, I suppose) and shouting out random, obscure names from the yesteryear of sports. I’d guess it’d be fun to do it with country music artists as well.
Anyways, the Titans media team asked their own players to rattle off the names of Atlanta-based artists (like OutKast and Lil Baby). In turn, they then field some country music shoutouts from the Falcons players. Here are the names that were mentioned:
-Jelly Roll
-Kane Brown
-Toby Keith (One player noted that the Big Dog Daddy was his grandma’s crush)
-Chayce Beckham (American Idol alum)
-Luke Combs
-Shania Twain (Long snapper Laim McCullough’s answer)
-Morgan Wallen
Not a bad list… could have used some more fringe shoutouts, but at least some players mentioned the likes of Luke Combs, Shania Twain and Toby Keith.
To be honest with you, I’m now interested in hearing Tennessee Titans players name their favorite country music artists. Surely they’d be a little more well-versed than those who currently call Atlanta home and suit up for the Falcons. But at the end of the day, yet another great idea from the Tennessee Titans media team.
They simply can’t miss when it comes to creative videos to help boost their social media engagement:
