Without a trophy since the FA Cup win in 2020 and with millions invested in the playing squad, Arteta knows a pivotal nine months await. The importance of the upcoming season has been reflected in the club’s recent transfer activity. The arrivals of midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard will help add depth and steel to Arteta’s side. Spanish defender Cristhian Mosquera will provide extra cover at centre-back while Kepa Arrizabalaga, Noni Maduele and the recent capture of striker Viktor Gyokeres, somewhat appears to address the problem areas. That represents a massive transfer outlay of £204m, but they have been told to not stop there. It’s something that is noteworthy, it’s something that they deserve an awful lot of credit for and it could be defining. “They needed to sign Gyokeres. He scored the most goals in Europe and Arsenal have gone out and signed a best-in-class player which is what they needed to do. But Jennings has warned Arsenal that their transfer business should not end there, with one more key signing likely to put them in contention for the Premier League title. “In my opinion, it’s not enough,” he added. “What they need to do now is marry up the signing of Viktor Gyokeres with more. “If you look at the methodology deployed by Liverpool, look at what they’ve done. “Not only have they made a statement signing in Florian Wirtz, they’ve also tweaked their squad where they needed to, they’ve gone and signed someone like [Milos] Kerkez.
