Zach Top Says That Jake Owen Is “Nasty” On The Golf Course

It just comes naturally. We all know that country music and beer go hand in hand, but another pairing that is just as elite is country music and golf. Well… and beer too. The trifecta. It just comes naturally.

We all know that country music and beer go hand in hand, but another pairing that is just as elite is country music and golf. Well… and beer too. The trifecta. But Lord knows if you are jamming to some Waylon Jennings or Sturgill Simpson on the course, you’re guaranteed to have a good time regardless of what you shoot. But outside of setting the vibe while driving from hole to hole, many country music stars love spending their free time on the links when they have a break from touring. In fact, some downright plan their tour schedule around golf courses they want to play… looking at you Darius Rucker.

Golf and country music stars have a long history together, from Willie Nelson having his own private course in Austin, Texas, to more recently, stars like Riley Green bringing out friends like Jamey Johnson for charity golf events, raising money for a good cause. And on the latter, golf crosses over with country music with PGA players like John Daly, who is not only a vocal lover of country music, but has even dabbled in the music world when he’s not on the course.

It’s a perfect pair.

For a recent Spotify interview, Zach Top and Dierks Bentley demonstrated how well the two pair together, hitting the driving range to discuss Top’s forthcoming record, Ain’t In It For My Health. While the two discussed various aspects of the records, such as the double meaning of the album’s title for Top, or that many of the songs had been in his vault for quite some time, they also shared some stories and funny moments they had experienced with other artists.

After sitting in lawn chairs and chatting for a little while, the two get up and move to the driving range. Top has been supporting Bentley on his Broken Branches tour, and the two must have been trying to hit together while on the road because as they are walking up to the tee, Bentley jokes with Top:

“It’s taken a Spotify shoot for us to get on the course.”

After Top makes some excuses for why he first hit might be bad, Bentley asks Top who is an artist that he’s enjoyed playing with. Top shared that he and Jake Owen recently played 18 together, and he’s a shark on the course.

“Oh, Jake Owen is nasty. We talked, because I’ve known him a little while, and we talked forever about playing, and we finally just played a couple of months ago for the first time together. Went out to his spot at the Golf Club of Tennessee, which is a sick course. But, it was so funny we walked up on the first tee and I’m, you know, doing my excuses like I do. I hit my ball; I think it was okay, it wasn’t great.

And Jake just walks up there and is like, ‘Man, you know how playing guitar is easy for you? This sh**s easy.’ Just walks up, smokes it. He’s a funny dude to be out there with.”

And Zach ain’t wrong. Jake Owen is nasty on the course. Earlier this year, he appeared in the American Century Championship, participating in the celebrity golf tournament, and laid down some incredible rounds. In a post highlighting the weekend, he shared a breakdown of his score per round, and the numbers don’t lie: he has one hell of a swing.

“Life’s like golf: some shots soar, some land in the rough, but you keep swinging and give it your all. My scores? Here’s how it went:

• Round 1: 76
• Round 2: 70
• Round 3: 73″

Finishing 3rd, Jake almost won it.

Owen wasn’t kidding when he said “this sh**s easy” for him.
