26-year-old Alexis Wilkins was told that she’d need to remove the American flag from her social media bio in order to work in the music industry… and she wasn’t having it.

If the name Alexis Wilkins sounds familiar, there’s a good chance you know her in one of three ways. First, she’s a country music artist that has released songs like “Grit” and “Stand” that have very patriotic messaging behind them. Second, she’s a political commentator and former Capitol Hill press secretary (for Representative Abe Hamadeh).

Still don’t know her from either of those things? Well then, you likely know her name because she’s the girlfriend of FBI Director Kash Patel. The two have been together for two years or so, and have been in the news before because of the 19-year age gap between them.

But let’s get back to the country music artist side of things. In an interview with Fox News Digital, the Belmont grad said that as she attempted to get started in the industry, there were record labels that were encouraging her to tone down anything that had to do with “loving America” – and the country music genre is generally more accepting of patriotism.

Wilkins claimed that music executives took issue with the fact that she had an American flag emoji in her social media bio, and that she’d be better off removing that, among doing other things differently, as she explained:

“I was told to take an American flag out of my Instagram bio, or that I had to support certain things or do certain things in order to get booked on tours, in order to get signed to a label. There are things that ultimately have to give up, and I wasn’t willing to do that and bend the knee to that.”

The young artist decided to put her foot down, and called the requests she got from record labels “ridiculous.” Another example of that ridiculousness? Wilkins says she was told to be careful which veterans organizations she supported, because supporting certain veterans programs could be seen as “partisan.”

Throughout it all, Alexis Wilkins stayed strong and never wavered away from being pro-America. In her head, if loving America was wrong, she didn’t want to be right:

“The industry and some figureheads in the industry were just saying that me having an American flag in my bio was going to be seen as partisan. It was things that were fundamentally American and things that I wasn’t willing to compromise on.”

Obviously, things have worked out okay for Alexis Wilkins. She’s put out a handful of singles and an EP, and she’s put together a promising political commentator career. Regardless of how you feel about politics, it’s pretty wild to hear that being proud of the American flag can be seen as partisan.

And not only that… if what Wilkins said about being warned not to support certain veterans organizations, that’s a real red flag. America’s veterans should be treated with kindness no matter what side of the aisle you are on, and that was the message Alexis Wilkins wanted to share with her 2022 song “Stand” that she dedicated to veterans and first responders.

“Stand”
