This would be like me telling a pilot how to fly a plane.

Diplo, whose real name is Thomas Wesley Pentz, is one of the biggest names in the history of electronic music. The DJ and producer has won three Grammy awards, sold millions of albums, and has collaborated with some of the biggest names in music from across all genres, including his country-inspired EDM album Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley, Chapter 1: Snake Oil, which featured everybody from Sturgill Simpson and Sierra Ferrell to Morgan Wallen and Thomas Rhett.

So yeah, he knows what he’s doing.

Over the weekend, Diplo was the DJ for the Sports Illustrated afterparty following the WNBA All-Star Game on Sunday. (He was also joined by country star Carly Pearce). And apparently one player wasn’t feeling the music…

Courtney Williams, a veteran from the Minnesota Lynx who was drafted to the WNBA in 2016, was spotted going up to the DJ to complain about his setlist and asking him to change things up as he was in the middle of playing a remix of Morgan Wallen’s “Just In Case.”

“Alright man, turn this up. Play some hip-hop.”

Honestly the best part of the video is Carly Pearce standing awkwardly in the background watching this all go down, but apparently Diplo didn’t mind the critique from Williams.

The DJ replied to the video on X, saying that he took the request as a challenge. And he also shared a video of Williams dancing that seems to confirm that it worked and that she ended up enjoying herself:

“I loved this party and I love a challenge as a dj. I was booked with the amazing Carly Pearce. we had a country vibe going – if all the studs and Wnba all stars want to turn up im goin to run it .. its not hard for me to go from country/ house / hip hop and take everyone on a journey and be as inclusive as possible . If Courtney comes with this energy im gonna match it – check my setlist from saturday night in Indiana.. its a party for everyone where else but mid west America can we do this ?”

It wasn’t the only viral video of Williams from All-Star Weekend. After dropping 13 points and 5 assists in the game, she tried to hit up the club with her teammate and “Stud Budz” streaming partner Natisha Hiedeman – but the duo was denied, despite name dropping Angel Reese:

“We in the ‘W’ and sh-t and we just got done at the All-Star Game. So I’m sorry, I’m not even trying to be funny but we should not be waiting in no line.”
