Dolly Parton will work for as long as she can.

From her successful music career, dabbling in acting, numerous philanthropic projects, being an author, and more, Dolly Parton is the definition of a true renaissance woman.

And to have that much going on in her life at 79 years old is beyond impressive.

It’s evident that passion is what drives Dolly. She has a passion for music, a passion for her fans, and a passion for giving back to others, but she also has an outlook on life that sees every day as an opportunity to bring new dreams to life. And as long as she can keep dreaming, she will keep going.

During her recent interview with Khloé Kardashian for the podcast Khloé in Wonder Land, the reality TV star and Good American founder asked Parton how she keeps everything in her career fresh and how she maintains her morale to keep going and creating.

Parton replies:

“Well, I always say that I live on spiritual and creative energy. And I always want to see things happen. Not only do I want to see them happen, but I want to make things happen. And it’s because of my faith that I believe that I can do something. I believe that I would be sinning if I didn’t make the most of what God has given me to work with.

And so I wake up every day because every day is a new day, and every new day brings on new things. You know it’s like, let tomorrow take care of the things of itself. So tomorrow will take care of the things. So when I look around every day, I wake up and I think, well, of course I have to carry over the things that we are working on, but there are always new dreams.

I always say I wake up with new dreams every day. And a lot of my people that work with me say, ‘Yeah, and your dreams are killing us.’ Because they have to help me carry them out.”

To say that Dolly Parton keeps her team busy is an understatement. Even after losing the love of her life, Carl Dean, earlier this year, Parton did not take very much time off because she knew that he would want her to keep working.

But her drive to keep going is not about wanting more success at this point in her life. It’s because she genuinely enjoys the work she does, and it gives her a sense of purpose.

“I just love life. I love people, I love my job, and I just love what I do. I just love that I can write songs. I just love that I can sing. I just love that I can go out on stage and make people happy. I love that I have that gift that feels like a God-given gift. There are more people that are more talented, but I’ going to make the most of what I got. So I just see a new chance every day, so I just go for it.

I like to entertain myself, too. I like to be entertained. So that’s everything I start a new, is going to be a new entertainment for me.”

Kholé Kardashian chimes in that she feels her mother shares the same sentiment. Kris Kardashian finds purpose in her work, and without it, she feels like her age will catch up with her.

Dolly could not agree more, sharing a phrase that she lives by:

“There’s an old saying, says ‘I would rather wear out than rust out.’ Because I think a lot of people, when they do retire, they start to rust.”

Dolly Parton jokes that she says she could retire, but her brain won’t slow down, and she will constantly want to keep creating, giving, and doing. Parton pokes fun at the artists who go on their farewell tours and then, a few years later, are back on the road again.

It sounds like we will never hear a statement like that come out of Dolly Parton’s mouth, because even if she takes a break from any of her many endeavors, she will revisit them one day.

Dolly Parton will not be slowing down anytime soon.
