Nothing like sending chills down the spines of thousands and thousands of people.
It’s no secret that Stagecoach is one of the premiere festivals in country music, drawing a crowd of more than 70,000 per day. Set in the deserts of Indio, California, at the Empire Polo Club, country music fans from all across the country travel in, and the crowd always features a healthy crop of celebrities and influencers who make the trip from Los Angeles. It’s definitely not your average country festival crowd, but the sheer size of it always allows for one of the best lineups of the year, and 2025 was no exception.
Headliners included Zach Bryan, Jelly Roll, and Luke Combs, with support from acts like Mumford & Sons, Sierra Ferrell, 49 Winchester, Sturgill Simpson, Ashley McBryde, Midland, Flatland Cavalry, and many, many more, but for my money, you gotta see Whiskey Myers live… they’re one of the best live shows in the business. The face melting southern rock band took the Palomino Stage on Friday, and they blew the metaphorical roof off.
And fan favorite “Stone” was a must-see.
“Stone” was featured on Whiskey Myers’ 2016 album Mud and has since become one of their most popular songs. The song is a gut-punch of raw emotion that has captivated fans since the day it was released, drawing widespread critical acclaim and a 2X Platinum certification from the RIAA… pretty impressive for an indie country rock band from East Texas without an ounce of radio play or corporate support. The song was prominently featured in the Paramount Network series Yellowstone, which also helped to bring Whiskey Myers to a whole new audience.
Around the release, frontman Cody Cannon told Whiskey Riff that the song was 100% based on his life… unfortunately:
“It’s just a song about my life unfortunately. A lot of people are real liking it and that’s really why we do this. People see things like that in their own life and maybe it’ll help them. Every word of it is very true, man.”
From the first note of the piano, and Cody’s powerful vocals following close behind, they had that massive crowd eating out of the palm of their hand. If you haven’t had a chance to see Whiskey Myers live yet, this is your sign.
