A brand new one from the Alabama boys.

The Red Clay Strays are previewing what’s in store for their next chapter of music. Last year, the Mobile, Alabama-based group released their critically acclaimed sophomore record Made By These Moments. The 11-song project, produced by Dave Cobb, explores the complicated chaos of everyday life, including facing conflict, death, emotions, and chasing one’s aspirations. Brandon Coleman took to social media to share a few words on this project with fans before they dived into the tracklist.

When the record was gifted to fans, they shared the following statement with it:

“The hardships and uncertainties in life are something that can never be comprehended by any person. We will never fully understand why we choose to hurt each other or why bad things happen to good people day after day. This iniquitous reality paired with the unbearable weight of the world will quickly leave you feeling alone, powerless, and without hope…”

Made By These Moments instantly captivated fans, and the way each song resonated with fans showed the power of music. Whether listeners were being saved with “Wanna Be Love,” felt seen with “Non One Else Like Me,” or were reminded by the band’s strong roots in faith that God loves them with “God Does,” there is a song for any and everyone on Made By These Moments.

The hot streak that Made By These Moments continues as the boys have begun to preview the next chapter of music during their live shows. Earlier this month in Cleveland, Ohio, the Red Clay Strays debuted a brand new song titled “What Are You Going To Do Today.”

Ironically, this song was debuted the same night that frontman Brandon Coleman kicked out a fan after he hit a woman. Boos erupted from the crowd after the moment, prompting the band to stop to see what was going on. When the crowd informed Coleman about what had happened, he calmly yet firmly told the fan that he “should probably leave.”

Coleman checked back in with the crowd to ensure everything was in order before the band resumed playing. But it was clear: they weren’t moving on until the situation was handled—a class act.

Before getting into the new tune, Coleman, who is sitting at a piano on stage, warns fans not to judge them if it’s an imperfect performance.

“We’re going to see how it goes. This is a judgment-free zone. You cannot make fun of us if we mess up. So let’s give it a shot… very vulnerable moment.”

The piano-forward ballad highlights the booming vocals of Brandon Coleman, instantly captivating the audience. The message of “What Are You Going To Do Today,” like many of their ballads, carries a powerful message.

Coleman sings a hopeful tale, trying to pull someone out of a dark place. While the main character of the song is struggling, Coleman reminds him through his words that there are simple daily acts to pull them out of this funk, asking the character what they are going to do today to push that dark cloud away.

“Everyone dies, so the story goes
No one’s here to stay
So what are you going to do today?
Everyone cries
Everyone knows, everyone goes away
What are you going to do today?

Because the storms are calling your name
And the stars would love to see you dance again…

As the song goes on, the whole band comes in, kicking up the melody. By the end of the song, Coleman’s vocals, the moaning guitar, and the stellar drum performance leave viewers with their jaws on the floor. If the live debut of the tune sounds this good, I can’t wait to hear the studio cut. These boys do not miss.

Check it out.
