Singing one for Charlie Kirk.
Like many Americans, the death of Charlie Kirk is still weighing heavily on their minds and hearts, especially after his memorial service over the weekend, where nearly one hundred thousand mourners gathered in State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The service was a significant event, with President Trump and Vice President Vance in attendance, along with many other prominent political leaders.
The shining moment from the memorial was when Charlie’s wife, Erika, took the stage and delivered an emotional speech where she forgave the shooter, because it’s what Charlie and Christ would have done.
“Our Savior said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they not know what they do.’ That young man … I forgive him. I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it’s what Charlie would do.
The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know from the gospel is love and always love. Love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us.”
The moment touched many, even Jimmy Kimmel mentioned how he was moved by Erika’s words in his return to late night, and the power of her words remains with them in the days following the event.
The shooting of Charlie Kirk has also left a heaviness in the country music community, with many artists sharing initial thoughts and tributes after his murder, and the tributes are still pouring out. Most recently, Jason Aldean and his wife, Brittany, gathered in their kitchen to sing a song in honor of Charlie after his memorial service.
Jason and Brittany both spoke out after news of his death broke, with Brittany penning:
“This is a heartbreak so many of us will never get over. Charlie was a father, husband, son, friend and so much more. One of the most intelligent people we’ve ever met, fighting for everything right in this world. He put everything on the line to be a voice for those who weren’t able. I admired him. His courage, his intelligence, his faith…. there will truly never be another like him. Charlie you will forever be missed. Trying to find peace in the fact that he’s in heaven shining down on us all, because man he loved Jesus and there’s no doubt that’s what he’s doing. Accepted into the arms of Jesus as a good & faithful servant.”
Jason shared:
“It’s been a hard day not only in our family, but all over the country. Charlie Kirk was one of the kindest, smartest and bravest people I’ve ever met. I’m honored to have met and spoke with him on a few occasions. He was a man of peace and wanted nothing but the best for our country and its youth. We might have lost Charlie today but what he has done will live on forever. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, kids and the entire Kirk family.”
The loss of their friend is still weighing heavily on the Aldean household, leading Jason and Brittany to team up for a kitchen jam session, where they perform a tune for Charlie. Jason sits on their counter, and Brittany stands by her husband as they sing Luke Bryan’s “Drink A Beer.” Jim Beavers and Chris Stapleton wrote the tune, which was initially recorded by Luke Bryan on his fourth studio album, Crash My Party. It was a No.1 hit for Bryan.
This is one of the rare instances where Brittany has shown off her vocal talent singing with her husband, but she for those who may not know, she actually auditioned for American Idol Season 11 in 2012, made it to Hollywood, but was ultimately eliminated.
Brittany joins Jason on the harmonies of “Drink A Beer,” making for a beautiful and heartfelt duet.
So I’m gonna sit right here
On the edge of this pier Watch the sunset disappear And drink a beer…”This was a great song selection as well, highlighting the feelings that the Aldeans, along with many other Americans, are wrestling with after this senseless act of violence.
Outside of this beautiful tribute, many Jason Aldean fans were thrilled to see Brittany sing with her husband and hope this means more duets will come from the couple in the future.
