U.K. Official Considers Canceling Marilyn Manson Show Over Past Sexual Assault Allegations

In the latest news coming out of Bournemouth, U.K., courtesy of the BBC, the city’s local council recently issued a statement about “The Beautiful People” singer Marilyn Manson and his upcoming show in the area. For years now, Manson has been the subject of continued sexual assault allegations and high profile legal battles. Most of the issues have been either dropped or settled out of court, but the mere fact he was accused has pushed Bournemouth’s council leader Millie Earl to urge that his show be be cancelled.

“I don’t feel Marilyn Manson reflects the values we have in BCP and we’ve been doing a lot of work around things like the White Ribbon accreditation scheme which helps men and boys change negative, damaging behaviours.

“So I have asked that BH Live reconsider hosting Marilyn Manson later this year.”

Earl said the push to have the show canceled was an attempt to “reinforce the message that violence against women and girls isn’t something that’s acceptable in our community”. Though she admitted that the decision to nix the show wasn’t entirely hers to make, she said she spoke with the venue owners about her concerns.

“Because of our lease arrangement with them, we don’t have any input into the decisions that are made, the acts that are appearing, although I have actually written to BH Live to express my concern.”

You may recall that Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman decided the statute of limitations had expired and that there wasn’t enough evidence to land a conviction against Manson back in January. It’s important to note for clarity’s sake that the decision to drop the investigation doesn’t necessarily mean Manson was innocent.

Still, Manson’s career was heavily affected by the allegations leveled against him, as he stepped away from touring and his manager, booking agent, and record label all walked away from the controversial artist. He was eventually signed with Nuclear Blast last May, after which he released One Assassination Under God and gone on tour.
