The wait is OVER.
One of Kentucky’s finest, Sir Timmy Tyler Childers of Lawrence County, has officially announced his latest project, affectionately titled, Snipe Hunter.
Set for release on July 25th, Tyler kicked off the announcement with a new, full band version of “Nose On The Grindstone,” a popular fan favorite from 2017 that never saw a formal recording outside of its OurVinyl Sessions. The new version stays true to the spirit of the old, mostly acoustic with a slow build.
Produced by the legendary producer and guru, Rick Rubin, who’s worked with everyone from Beastie Boys and Run DMC to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Metallica, and even the Dixie Chicks, the album also features production from Tyler himself, as well as Sylvan Esso’s Nick Sanborn. Of course, one of Rubin’s greatest works is Johnny Cash’s iconic American Recordings, that sparked a career revival of sorts towards the end of his life.
RCA Chairman and CEO Peter Edge said the project will “defy expectations,” and I think we can see why:
“I’m really excited about Tyler Childers’ new album, which is produced by Rick Rubin. He defies expectations, and this new album goes even further. The great thing about Tyler is that he does it the way he wants to do it. He’s playing giant venues, and he’s making the music he wants to make.”
When Tyler first teased the project in the dead of night, wiping his Instagram clean and dropping a video full of potential Easter Eggs, fans immediately suspected Tyler was recording some of his unreleased hidden gems from over a decade ago. Fans thought “Jersey Giant,” “Oneida,” “Snipe Hunt,” and others like “Grindstone” could be in the mix based on the video, and it sounds like they might be right.
The album will feature 13 tracks, and although the full tracklist hasn’t been revealed yet, it sounds like there might a mix of a few old favorites and some brand new material. There’s a lot to be excited about for Tyler Childers fans, and this is just the beginning. Stay tuned for a full tracklist announcement.
