Not letting fear take over.

It’s no secret that Treaty Oak Revival loves it when their fans get rowdy, which is quite the opposite of most performers. It’s quite an interesting time for concert etiquette because, while most artists are over having the lecture fans on keeping their hands to themselves and their belongings on their bodies, certain artists, like Treaty Oak and Gavin Adcock, thrive on the beer-slinging energy that their crowds bring to the shows.

Treaty Oak Revival stands in opposition to the recent concert culture debate and welcomes the rowdiness their crowd brings with open arms.

While Treaty Oak Revival attempts to limit all the beer-throwing shenanigans to one single song, their 2021 track, “Boomtown.” When the intro of “Boomtown” starts, the beer slinging begins, and the crowd turns into a Shamu splash zone. This part of Treaty Oak’s show has become a famed tradition, and most fans abide by the unspoken rule that no beers are thrown until this part.

That was, until a recent show in South Carolina…

After performing “Boomtown” just two songs before, Canty and crew launched into “No Vacancy,” the title track of their debut album. As Canty begins singing the chorus, a full, or near-full, beer can (might actually be a water bottle) is seen being launched into the frame from the crowd. The can smacked Canty right in the face, knocking the mic off its stand.

Clearly taken aback by the beer hitting him directly in the face and potentially breaking his nose, he’d take a second to retrieve the microphone before launching directly back into the chorus, barely missing a beat.

After the fact, you can clearly see the gash on Canty’s right cheek, just underneath his eye. After the song, he reportedly told the crowd that something to the effect of “it’s been a while” since he was hit in the face with a beer, and he more or less laughed it off, and later shared a picture of his battle wound online, noting that he still finished out the show.

Ouch, that’s going to leave a shiner.

While some might think that Sam Canty and the rest of Treaty Oak Revival would be concerned that another flying beer can could hit them again, causing further injury,  their reaction was quite the opposite. Instead of changing their ways and asking fans to stop throwing beers or informing fans that the “Boomtown” tradition is called off because of one unruly fan, the night after getting nailed in the face, Sam Canty was ready for the crowd to bring the heat.

But he had one request for the crowd at Virginia Credit Union LIVE! in Richmond, VA:

“And I got hit in the f***ing nose last night, so keep it… that way (points towards crowd).”

Canty says as he motions for the beer to stay in the crowd and not come flying toward the stage.

“But let’s f***ing rage, shall we? Lance, are you ready? Let’s go!”

With that, guitarist Lance Vanley lets the opening riff of “Boomtown” rip, and that’s the crowd cue to start slinging beers, waters, and any other drinks they might have on their body into the air.

For a moment, Canty runs off to the side stage, making the viewers wonder if he is taking cover, but that was short-lived as he then comes back into frame, emptying his beer on the stage before getting back to the microphone to begin singing the lyrics.

A beer to the face isn’t going to scare Sam Canty, but as fans, we should not take advantage of the rowdy nature that Treaty Oak Revival welcomes at their shows. Don’t go slinging beers at the stage when it’s not “Boomtown” and still be mindful of those around you (AKA maybe don’t throw a full beer can into the air). The post Treaty Oak Revival’s Sam Canty Tells Fans To “F’ing Rage” The Night After Getting Nailed In The Face: “Keep It That Way” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
