Is that Heart’s lead singer on stage or Audrey McGraw?
Holy cow, this girl has a set of pipes! No wonder Tim McGraw and Faith Hill brag on their kids so much because they are going places. Following in the footsteps of her parents, Tim and Faith’s youngest daughter, Audrey, has proven to be quite the vocalist over the past few years. In fact, Tim recently said he’s the worst singer in the family, and I think he may be right.
Rightfully so, her parents are proud of her vocal ability, constantly promoting her music and sharing what she’s been up to. Earlier this year, Tim McGraw gushed over her performance of “Cucurrucucú Paloma,” a Mexican song written by Tomás Méndez in 1954 and famously known for the rendition sung by Lola Beltrán.
“Had to post this, our baby girl Audrey bringing mom and dad to tears!”
I am sure that Tim and Faith are fangirling over one of their daughter’s most recent posts, too, again showcasing her showstopping vocals.
Over the last few weeks, Audrey McGraw has been across the pond, supporting Brandi Carlile on her European tour dates. During one of their final shows on tour in Madrid, Spain, McGraw laid down a jaw-droppingly good cover of Heart’s “Barracuda.”
The song, recorded and released as the lead single for Heart’s 1977 record Little Queen, is a rock and roll classic. The heavy chug of the guitar in the intro captivates listeners, and lead singer Ann Wilson’s powerful vocals hold their attention.
McGraw’s rendition takes a much softer approach, singing to an acoustic backing which truly lets her vocals shine. The high notes of the chorus are perfectly placed, mimicking the original recording. Audrey McGraw appears as if she is barely breaking a sweat holding the long, drawn-out notes, impressing the audience.
WOW. I need more than a snippet of this performance. I need the whole song…
The video instantly captured the attention of social media, filling the comment section with words of praise.
“INCREDIBLE.”
“Tell me your Faith Hill’s daughter without telling me your Faith Hill’s daughter…”
“She is fantastic, but why wouldn’t she be? Her parents are Faith Hill and Tim McGraw.”
“She sounds like Ann! Wow!”
“Her voice is unbelievable!!! She got that from her momma!”
“That’s a brunette Faith Hill.”
“What I think I sound like while blasting this song in my car.”
“She’s definitely her mother’s daughter!”
One user who commented on the post instantly grabbed my attention; the incredible female vocalist and Broadway sensation, Kristin Chenoweth, left a string of fire and clapping emojis on her Instagram post. I’d say if you’re grabbing her attention, you’re doing something right.
Heart, especially Ann Wilson, would be proud of this cover.
Fire up the original while you’re here.
Audrey McGraw Performs New Duet With Lukas Nelson
Earlier this summer, during CMA Fest, McGraw hopped on stage at Chief’s On Broadway to sing a few songs with Lukas Nelson during his American Romance album preview event.
Accompanying a video of the two songbirds performing, McGraw wrote a message about how this unreleased duet came to be.
“Lukas and I wrote ‘Descent into Love’ a few days after we met. It was the first song we wrote together… been holding onto it for a while, but the other night we finally got to share it live. I can’t wait to put it out one day. It’s a special one.
And by the way… he put on a kick a** show with some amazing folks. WOW!! Was honored to be up there. Xxx”
The song features a soft, acoustic melody, allowing their harmonies to shine. The heartbreaking tune details a character’s struggle to overcome a past lover. The music is hauntingly beautiful as Audrey sends her vocals into a falsetto tone during the chorus.
This performance took place ahead of Lukas Nelson’s American Romance album release, and since it was not part of that project, it appears that “Descent Into Love” will be included on a project McGraw has in the works.
While there are no details about what McGraw is working on or what genre her music will fall into, it’s apparent that she will be forced to be reckoned with. The music she’s released thus far is a strong way to come out of the gate as an artist.
