Kaitlin Butts found out where her song was featured in Landman along with all of the other viewers of the show.

It’s no secret that Taylor Sheridan has played an intricate role in the growth and popularity of country music. Almost any series that he has his hands on puts country music front and center, and shows like Yellowstone and Landman are the only programs including songs from artists like Colter Wall, Charley Crockett and Whiskey Myers, who traditionally don’t get much mainstream attention.

There’s even a name for the phenomenon: it’s called the Yellowstone Effect.” When an artist has a song featured on the show, or any Sheridan show for that matter, it provides an incredible growth opportunity and the song typically shoots up to the top of the charts and sees a massive increase in streams once it’s been featured. A number of artists, including Whiskey Myers, Shane Smith and the Saints, and more have the data to back it up.

The talented Kaitlin Butts is one of the latest country artists to have their music featured in a Taylor Sheridan show.

Episode 9 of Landman’s second season – the penultimate episode – had a lot of twists and turns (and jabs at woke college culture). It also included Butts’ break-out hit “You Ain’t Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me),” and there was a little bit of a twist with that as well.

Kaitlin Butts had no idea where her song was going to be featured in the episode. She just okayed the use of it, and the folks over at Landman told her that it would used in Episode 9. So she tuned in with everyone else to find out how the Taylor Sheridan series would utilize her work:

“We’re watching Landman to see where my song ‘You Ain’t Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me)’ is at in the show… when you get a song in a TV show, they don’t tell you much. You don’t know when it’s gonna be played or how loud or in the background your song will be.”

As it turns out, “You Ain’t Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me)” got plenty of playtime within the show. In a scene that had Ali Larter’s Angela and Michelle Randolph’s Ainsley laying pool side, almost an entire minute of Kaitlin’s song was prominently featured. Though it did seem as though the country artist might have been bummed that her music was used for yet another pool side scene in the show:

“Not another pool scene. Every time one of my songs has been on ‘Landman,’ it’s during a pool scene.”

But even if she felt some type of way about it, Kaitlin Butts was redeemed by a line that Ali Larter delivered effortlessly as her hit song slowly faded out. You’ll have to watch the video below to see how the singer-songwriter reacted, and it was rather cool that she let her fans in on the unique experience of having your own song included in a hit series:

“Yes! That is so cool… grab life by the balls and twist baby. And I’ve always said that.”
