WOAH.

This has to be one of the best uses of a social media trend I’ve seen in a while. It’s horribly funny… slightly wrong but horribly funny.

Currently on Twitter or X (whichever you prefer), there is a viral trend unfolding. The trend is making its rounds across platforms, with everyday users, famous bands and groups, and major brands participating.

The trend starts with the user sharing an image that they wish to upload as their banner/header image on X. As we know, the banner image dimensions are a long rectangular shape, making it hard for many everyday photos to fit. The user asks their followers how to edit the image so that it fits the dimensions and showcases the image of their liking in full.

After posting the initial “I can’t get this to get into my banner” post, the account will follow up with another post, quoting the first post, sharing that they figured it out. This prompts the user to click on their profile to see how they got the alleged image to fit their profile banner.

However, the user is surprised to see that the header is not the proposed image, but something entirely different. The rock band Weezer is a flawless example of this trend, having “You Just Got Weezered” as their banner:

There have been some other great versions of the trend that I’ve seen, but the account that takes the cake is the Portland Pickles.

The Portland Pickles is a collegiate wood-bat baseball team. The team claims to be the “biggest party in town and lead the league in attendance with the best fans in the world,” and based on their hype video, this group of fans looks like the kind of crowd I could get down with. It has a mild Savanah Bananas vibe with a lot of fun outside of the actual game occurring, but minus the dancing and replace that with a few cold brews.

After setting the vibe of the Portland Pickles, you’ve got to be thinking that their take on this trend is going to be pretty good, right? If you had that thought, buckle up.

The trend starts off just as it was previously described, by asking the initial question, then quoting the first post to inform fans that they figured it out:

However, when you click on the Portland Pickles’ profile, you are met with an NSFW image of their mascot, Dillon. They have since removed it, but let’s just say it was a shot of Dillon’s… pickle.

It’s hilarious, given it’s not a real person, but it’s rather jarring when you see it. I mean, so might say that this was expected if you are familiar with the team’s account, as they often post witty content surrounding the character. However, I was not familiar with the Portland Pickles game and was left speechless.

In all honesty, it was a flawlessly executed prank playing into this viral trend. The rest of the internet was left stunned, too, with over 2 million people seeing the post, and with many hilarious reactions on it.

Well done, Portland Pickles… that was a pickle I was not expecting to see today. Check out some of my favorite reactions:
