Is there ever a right time to sing on an airplane?

That’s the million dollar question right now as a video of a girl singing “How Far I’ll Go” from the Disney movie Moana goes viral online. They say you can’t always trust what you read on the internet, but I think the only exception – at least sometimes – is the overwhelming agreement that social media users can sometimes express.

Most people are saying this Moana concert was not warranted or welcomed.

It’s not like this type of stuff never happens. I’ve seen dozens of videos of planes breaking out into song, or someone pulling out a guitar during a flight and having a little jam session. The only problem with those situations is that not everyone wants to sing along in the sky like it’s a musical. Some people just want peace and quiet as they soar through the sky in a metal tube, and anything to them but peace and quiet is a no go.

As you can see, someone on X described the girl singing over the plane’s PA system as their “worst nightmare,” which is really saying something when it comes to the recent state of aviation:

Oh no.

Before we get any further, I want to give a shoutout to that girl for standing up in front of a bunch of people and singing. That takes guts. As you enter into adulthood, those moments of performing with a crowd of eyes watching you get harder and harder to pull off. So there’s a small chance she has what it takes just because she showed up and sang.

And I’m all for kids trying to find their way and chase their dream. If this girl wants to pursue a career in music, more power to her. Maybe she’ll look back at this video of her singing “How Far I’ll Go” one day and she’ll ironically see how far she’s come along with her singing.

So we all understand that in no way, shape or form am I making fun of this girl, correct? It’s clearly coming across that I actually respect the heck out of her? Okay good… well let’s get on to what the rest of the internet had to say about this.

The response to this video from those online was ugly, with many saying – or implying – that the girl’s impromptu concert was a tad rude and inconvenienced those within the plane’s cabin:
