Sacramentum’s Nisse Karlén Dead at 50

Following a long battle with his mental health, Swedish blackened death metal outfit Sacramentum announced that one of their founding members Nisse Karlén committed suicide at the age of 50.

News of his passing was made public through a post on the band’s official social media pages, in which the surviving members revealed the distressingly sad news.

“With deep sorrow, we share the heartbreaking news that our dear friend, band member, and one of the founders of Sacramentum, Nisse Karlén, has passed away. He chose to leave this world due to struggles with mental health.

“At this time, we kindly ask for privacy for his family, friends, and bandmates as we come to terms with this loss. Thank you for everything, Nisse. You will always be with us. Suicide is never to be glorified.”

Karlén originally joined the band back in 1990 when it was known in Falköping as Tumulus. Though he initially joined as a guitarist, he moved over to bass and vocals over time. His contributions to the band helped push their sound into a more atmospheric blackened death metal style that eventually made its debut in their 1996 debut album Far Away from the Sun.

The band would eventually release two more albums — The Coming Of Chaos and Thy Black Destiny before going splitting up in 2001. The band eventually got back together in 2019, resurfacing for various festival spots in recent years.
