Country and Christian music might be as popular as ever in 2o25… and could the genres have gotten a little help from politics?

Safe to say that President Donald Trump has brought about a good amount of change since he reclaimed the White House this past January after winning the 2024 Presidential Election. Now I’m not one to get political, so I won’t get into too much detail about what all of those changes are… but whether you call yourself a Republican or a Democrat, you know the tides have been turning in 2025.

And with that has also come an apparent shift in music taste across the country. Now you likely remember learning the phrase “Correlation does not always imply causation” in school, right? Probably one of the only things you can recall in adulthood, besides “the Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.”

But getting back to the correlation… it seems that since President Trump has taken office, the genre of country music has benefited. Could that be scientifically proven? Probably not, but Fox News is taking notice of the trend, and reporting that both country and Christian artists have had multitudes of success in 2025, and that the political shift in the U.S. could have something to do with that:

“Several Christian and country artists have also ranked high on the music charts this year… indicating a ‘political vibe shift’ in American pop music since President Donald Trump took office.”

Their report actually came from another claim by Semafor, which said that Morgan Wallen’s I’m The Problem album is driving a lot of the country trends on the charts. Of course, Wallen’s latest project debuted at the very top of the Billboard 200 all-genre chart back in May, and at one point occupied six of the Top 10 spots on the Billboard Hot 100.

I’m The Problem is currently in the midst of its sixth straight week at number one on the Billboard.

Wallen’s album alone is enough to skew the numbers a bit to make it at the very least seem as though country music is having more success as Trump’s second term as president proceeds. But another statistic from Luminate shows that the growth in popularity for country music has actually been taking place over the last couple of years… not just the last couple of months:

“The past two years have undoubtedly seen a resurgence of country music. It was the fastest-growing genre in 2023 with 23.8% growth in streaming compared to the previous year.”

What they fail to mention is that Morgan’s Dangerous: The Double Album, which came out in 2021, and One Thing At A Time, which dropped in 2023, were both massively successful well before Trump got back into office. Zach Bryan probably has a lot to do with it as well. And then, you could argue that the overall quality of country music has been steadily getting better with the likes of Tyler Childers, Billy Strings, Red Clay Strays, Zach Top and more becoming household names.

That’s just me playing a little Devil’s advocate. Though if anything, it only supports the fact that country music continues to gain traction and become one of the most listened to genres in all of music.

And as I mentioned earlier, it does seem that the Christian genre has seen a similar rise. Back in May, there were two Christian songs that made the Hot 100 chart – the first time that’s happened in over a decade. One is Forrest Frank’s viral smash “Your Way’s Better,” and the other just so happened to be the Christian-country crossover that you’ve probably heard: “Hard Fought Hallelujah” with Christian artist Brandon Lake and rapper-turned-country-singer Jelly Roll.

That song on it’s own is another piece of the “country and Christian is popular thanks to Trump” puzzle. Could it be just coincidence? Sure. But it could also all be attributed to President Trump ushering in a culture shift that makes people feel more bold to just… like what they like. Or maybe the increase in Christian music consumption is actually related to people growing in their faith. Maybe the Gospel is spreading, maybe people are putting their hope in something eternal, maybe God is at work even though the country seems more divisive and dysfunctional than ever? But yeah, sure… maybe it’s Trump…

Regardless, country and Christian music are certainly having a moment, and instead of trying to find the point of origin (if there is one) for its popularity in 2025, maybe we should just soak it all in and enjoy it?
