Report: Arsenal’s new #1 striker target revealed following Andrea Berta’s arrival

Arsenal’s pursuit of attacking reinforcements ahead of the 2025/26 season is beginning to take shape, with reports suggesting a major target is emerging. According to The Athletic via The New York Times, Viktor Gyokeres is attracting serious interest from the Gunners, who are expected to be active in the upcoming transfer window.

The Swedish international has been in prolific form since joining Sporting CP, and his profile is said to be highly rated by Arsenal’s new sporting director Andrea Berta. At 26, Gyokeres is entering his peak years, and his powerful, direct style could offer a fresh dynamic to Arsenal’s frontline as they look to build on their recent progress under Mikel Arteta.

Although his contract includes a release clause of €100million (around £83million), it’s understood that a deal could be struck for slightly less. Per a BBC Sport update, sources close to the player believe that Sporting would be willing to negotiate a fee in the region of €75m-€85m (£62m-£70m), making the striker a more accessible option for top clubs across Europe. Some reports suggest that his release clause drops to a figure of close to this amount this summer.

For Arsenal, who have been linked with several attacking options in recent months, the addition of a consistent goalscorer could prove crucial. The likes of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have offered versatility and quality in spells, but questions remain over who can lead the line consistently in the Premier League and Champions League. With Gyokeres impressing in Portugal and Europe, his name now joins a growing list of Arsenal transfer targets being monitored ahead of a key summer window.

Gyokeres’ potential arrival would likely see Arsenal reshuffle their attacking options, and fans will be eager to see whether Berta’s influence helps get a deal over the line. Given the club’s increased financial power and Champions League qualification likely once again, the Gunners could be well-placed to act decisively.
